Jahvon Blair and Josh LeBlanc Lead Clyde's to 2018 Kenner League Championship

The Game: Clydes again lost a double digit lead in the final 8 minutes or so, and again pulled out the game in the final minute. Kethan Savage led Symond’s back by attacking aggressively, and also knocking down two clutch 3s. But Jahvon Blair hit both ends of two 1-and-1’s in the final minute to seal the game.

Greg Malinowski: 15 pts, 3-4 2 pt, 6-6 FT, 1-4 3pt, 3 reb, 2 asst, 5 TO

-Greg seems to find ways to pile up some points each game. He does a good job drawing fouls when he attacks the basket, but he struggles to finish if there is any solid defense around the rim.

-On a baseline out of bounds play: inbound passer threw the ball to greg at the short corner spot along the baseline, and he instantly redirected a touch lob pass to Yurtseven for a dunk. Really sharp pass.

-Hit a nice 15 foot pullup jumper

-Always moving without the ball, looking for open space

-Panics a bit sometimes when he is pressured heavily with the ball, especially if he is double teamed.

Omer Yurtseven: 19 pts, 9-12 2 pt, 1-1 ft, 0-1 3pt, 7 reb (2 off), 1 st, 1 bl, 4 TO

-Awful on the first half (0 points). Got good position a few times early, but could not finish. But played much better in the second half (all 19 points), with multiple dunks and strong finishes. Omer is very inconsistent right now, but you can see the potential. He is around 7’ tall, runs well, has good touch around the basket, and explodes off the floor quickly when he can get space to take a step (or even half step) into his jump. If he develops really well, he could be a high impact player next year. If not, he’ll still be useful, but deeply frustrating.

-Best play - caught a lob and dunked it over Pryor. Big time play.

-ran the court well, caught a pass cutting through the lane for a layup

Josh LeBlanc: 17 pts, 8-15 2pt, 1-1 ft, 0-1 3pt, 4 reb (2 off), 1 asst, 2 st, 1 bl, 1 TO

-hit a pullup jumper from 17 feet early on. His best jump shot of the summer

-threw a quick pass ahead off a D board - leading to an easy layup for Blair

-Really good timing on P/R. Breaks at just the right time, and goes to the rim hard.

-airballed a 3

-quick baseline cut got him wide open for a pass, dunk

-Took yurtseven off the dribble, drew contact for foul, then used his length to extend a long way and flip the ball into the hoop. Really pretty play.

-missed a few layups in the second half - one open, one or two contested

Jahvon Blair: 17 pts, 2-5 2pt, 4-4 ft, 3-6 3pt, 3 reb (1 off), 2 asst, 1 TO

-Played well over the weekend. Forced fewer shots, played more under control. Did not put up the huge point totals he sometimes does in Kenner, but contributed significantly to the two wins with smart, more efficient play.

-Nice P/R pass to LeBlanc for a wide open layup

-long step back 2 off the dribble - bounced back behind the 3 point line and drilled the shot

-Good transition pass to LeBlanc for a layup +1

-Around midcourt, on the wing: saw an opportunity for a fast break, but the defender was well positioned. He threw the ball out ahead of himself, darted around the defender, grabbed the ball on one bounce, and went the rest of the way for a layup. Really clever play.

-Hit all 4 shots on two 1-and-1s I the final minute to lock down the game. He is a solid foul shooter. He may well be on the court a lot late in games when we have a lead. Same for Malinowski. They seem to pretty clearly be our two best foul shooters. We have a lot of other solid foul shooters, but both these guys are outstanding.

Stay Casual, my friends.
