Eid Al Fitr, 2025 -- Gaza

As many already know, the past week Muslims around the world celebrated Eid Al-Fitr. And for those in Gaza, Muslim Palestinians were forced celebrate Eid in the midst of a deadly genocide under the risk of bombardment and death.

Among these is a brave Gazan teacher who used what little money she had raised for her own family to make this Eid special for the children in her community. This teacher is Shahd Abumousa's mother @drshahd. In addition to continuing her duties as an educator in her community, she is bringing hope to Gazan children in her community who have experienced unimaginable loss and trauma.

Shahd has been fundraising since early last year to provide for her family, and she has only raised $31,497 out of her goal of $100,000. In last few days, her fundraiser has completely stagnated, raising only $7 in 4 days. Let's not forget the Abumousa family and their contributions to their community. Keep sharing their story and don't forget them during these difficult and horrific times.

Should I put $10 towards food, or towards education and development in Gaza?

This is a real question, not just theory or philosophy… a question I face every day, and I found myself needing to answer it clearly.

Today in Gaza, people are hungry… but also, people are lost. There's a graduate sitting on rubble with no laptop to even work on. There's a university student studying by candlelight, without internet to continue their education. There's an engineer, who instead of building, is searching for a box of aid to feed his family.

Do you know what this means? It means the occupation doesn't want to kill us with bullets, it wants to kill us with ignorance, with helplessness, by turning us into just people waiting for a bag of flour, waiting for aid… and that's the biggest crime against us. Today we all in Gaza need a bite to eat… but tomorrow? Do I want to spend my whole life depending on others to live? This is the question that worries me the most!! Or should I be able to provide for myself and my family and rebuild my life from scratch?

That's why, instead of that $10 being a meal for one day, let it be an investment in a student who will emerge from under the rubble, will learn, and will be able to provide their own food forever.

Let it be a share of Esnad, not just so Gaza can live another day… but so that Gaza can rise, stand, and persevere forever.

This is particularly tricky due to scarce internet access, insufficient power to operate their devices, as well as unavailability of spaces in which to study.

I am Manal, a mother from Gaza, not only living under bombing and fear, and the death that steals lives without mercy... I live every moment watching my little daughter, Swar, who is only a year and a half old, crying from hunger 🥺, and I can do nothing...

She hasn't eaten anything for 24 hours. The gunfire around us never stops, but her crying amidst it all is what broke me... Her eyes, her tears, her hunger made me feel like I can't go on, I can't be a mother, I can't even stay alive.

After an endless struggle, all I managed to get was one cup of milk... like a sip of life in a sea of death.

One can of baby formula - costs $30 - has become a dream... I can only get it if a miracle happens.

This is not just hunger - we live under siege, under oppression, under deliberate starvation. We are dying slowly and our children are turning into shadows of fear and hunger. As a mother, I am not asking for anything for myself... but my little daughter... she is too small to be patient, too small to say "I am hungry" except with her tears...
