Randy (BW)

From Transformers Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search
The name or term "Randy" refers to more than one character or idea. For a list of other meanings, see Randy (disambiguation).
Randy is a Maximal from the Beast Wars Neo portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Randy (ランディー Randī) is a powerhouse of a Maximal and a dedicated one at that. He can trample an enemy to the ground and then, just to drive the point home, he'll stamp them into the dirt. He is abnormally patient and can wait silently for days without even slightly getting bored. Randy is also honest to a fault, often blurting out truths that others might not find very flattering. This might explain why he never feels at home in a group or on a team. He prefers to work as a freelance Maximal for hire, willing to aid any Supreme Commander who may need his support.

COMING THROUGH!

Randy was an eager Maximal devoted to his mission of protecting innocent life. However, his aggressive and impulsive nature could cause problems when he acted without thinking. Despite his impressive wartime record, he was also recorded as putting his comrades in danger when he engaged the enemy without thinking of the consequences to others. He was assigned a solo mission to protect endangered life in the galaxy, and found his way to Planet Tube. Randy cared for the small critters on this world, even though he disturbed their peace occasionally with his charging and headbutting to work off steam.

When an Angolmois Capsule landed on the planet, Randy dismissed it as unimportant until the Predacons Sling and Saberback came looking for it. Believing them to be animal poachers, Randy drove off the Predacons. He was already riled up when the Maximals Stampy and Colada also came looking for the capsule, and assumed they were with the first duo. While Randy fought with the Maximals, Saberback returned and kidnapped the child of a local animal couple. They alerted Randy to the abduction, and he broke off his fighting to rescue the baby. The Predacons demanded the Angolmois capsule in exchange for the child. Randy went looking for the capsule and found the Maximals still searching for it. He demanded they leave the planet without explaining the danger to the child, and charged Stampy and Colada when they refused to abandon their mission without reason.

Randy found the critter couple had hidden the capsule in their nest, and prepared to exchange it for their son. The Maximals and Predacons both found him and the capsule together, and Saberback tried to renegotiate for Randy to kill the Maximals for them too. DNAVI got tired of the child and teleported it back from the Dinosaur early, though, helping the Maximals realize what Randy's motivations were. Randy and Colada chased Saberback underground and safely recovered the baby. The child was returned to his parents, and Randy apologized to the Maximals for not trusting them earlier. Attack! Randy

After the defeat of Unicron, Randy returned to Cybertron. There, he literally butted heads with Hardhead. Graduation Ceremony!!

Toys

Beast Wars

Upon transformation to beast mode for this picture, something went "crack" and a spring fell out, accompanied by plastic dust. This is not a joke. This actually happened to this exact toy.
  • Randy (Basic, 1999)
Part of the first wave of Beast Wars Neo products in Takara's Beast Wars toyline, Randy is a redeco of Beast Wars Basic Razorbeast, a mold that had not yet been released in Japan, despite Razorbeast being advertised in countless Japanese toy catalogs. Randy changes from an organic wild boar to robot mode with a single-step spring-loaded transformation, activated by pulling up on his tail. His mane can also detach to form a hand-held double-barreled blaster.
This toy is one of the most notorious examples of Gold Plastic Syndrome in all of Transformers; the entire figure is built around the spring-loaded auto-transformation gimmick, and all those thin, swirly-metallic-gold parts are under constant stress when in beast mode, which is how he's packaged, held together by only a clear rubber band in the packaging—that's if the rubber band hasn't already disintegrated. So be very careful when removing him from the packaging in case yours happens to be on a hair-trigger, as you could end up with small parts crumbling and flying off. We highly recommend that you either keep this one in the packaging or transform it into robot mode once and just leave it alone... also, keep it away from the edge of a shelf, in case it dives off... in fact, just don't even breathe near it....
Alternatively, if you like to burn your money, then you can always do what this guy did with his.
