Synopsis
Another victim of being reduced to a Headmaster, Blitzwing is drinking with Astrotrain at Hardhead's bar and feeling like he's been to the Legends World once before, though Astrotrain thinks he's just spinning tall tales and makes fun of him for being unable to fight without orders. On the way home, Blitzwing insists he'd be the perfect soldier if only he had the perfect strategist giving him orders, but stops when he suddenly recalls his past and warns Astrotrain that the area is about to be bombed. Indeed, an army of tanks and jets suddenly overruns the city, an army that Blitzwing remembers being part of...
At the mayor's office, Megatron recognizes the attacking forces as Quintesson military hardware, even though the last Quintessons are supposed to have been sucked into a dimensional fissure. Soundblaster explains that the Quintessons have invented ways to traverse spacetime before, meaning the passage of time is irrelevant—these Quintessons must be from the past! The Quintesson leading the army is ordering his soldiers to destroy the city and turn it into an area where they can build factories and exile criminals, only to be interrupted when Blitzwing tackles him, angry about once having been a Quintesson slave. He's easily tossed aside by the Quintesson's personal Overcharge, however, and is left lamenting that he's no good at planning strategies when a robot mammoth calling himself Big Fight approaches and offers to be his strategist. In the meantime, Astrotrain has fetched his transtector and helps shoot down one of the Overcharges, allowing Blitzwing to modify it into a transtector of his own.
Big Fight doesn't offer a strategy for the coming battle, however, but just transforms into a gun for Blitzwing and tells him to make his own destiny. Reflecting that he's tired of being ordered around like a piece of military hardware anyway, Blitzwing decides to face his weakness and think for himself, flies to the battlefield and transforms into a tank in mid-air to crush the Quintesson's Overcharge. When the Quintesson escapes, the Overcharge begins despairing that he's not receiving orders and doesn't know what to do, causing Blitzwing to have a revelation—the Overcharge is him from the past! Looking his past self in the eyes, he tells him that his name is now Blitzwing and gives him his "orders": to be free, think for himself, and do whatever he enjoys doing.
The army flees back to their own universe, with the Quintesson deeming whoever created this world dangerous and in need of investigation, while Blitzwing watches and recalls that, yeah, he did get his name from a big purple guy once. He asks Big Fight who he is, and the mammoth reveals he's just a local nerd afflicted with Transformers sickness who saw a chance to fight alongside a G1 Transformer and took it. Blitzwing then goes drinking with Astrotrain again, explaining that after abandoning the Quintessons, he joined the Decepticons, helped attack the Ark and ended up on Earth, though Astrotrain is still uninterested in hearing his stories. The next day, Big Fight, in reality the high school teacher Big Convoy, falls asleep during class.

Notes
- Blitzwing's obsession with having his own personal strategist is taken from his actions in "Triple Takeover".
- Megatron recalls the defeat of the Quintessons from their latest chronological appearance in Kiss Players.
- Soundblaster mentions that the Quintessons built a device for dimensional travel in the depths of Cybertron, referring to the machine used in "Madman's Paradise". This episode is also what introduced the concept of the Quintessons using other dimensions as prisons.
- The Quintesson mentions they may have to employ quadrant lock against the Zamojin, which will lead to the events of "The Face of the Nijika".
- Big Convoy parallels his Beast Wars Neo self by being a teacher, his class being made up of his Neo recruits.
Errors
- Headmaster Blitzwing's helmet is miscolored green in one panel.
