The energy leech is a device from the Marvel portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

The energy leech is a Decepticon device designed to drain Earth of its natural resources. Unfortunately, the process includes the destruction of the planet.

In the alternate future of 2009, Earth was threatened by a time rift. The Decepticons, under the leadership of Soundwave, took advantage of this opportunity and built the energy leech to both gain energy and destroy the planet. The Autobots soon caught wind of the device through Arcee's reconnaissance and were pleaded with by Daniel and Spike Witwicky to deal with it before they went on their mission to 1989 to deal with the cause of the time rift.

With the final preparations completed by the Terrorcons, Soundwave was about to activate the device when his remote was suddenly blasted by a force of Autobots sent to deal with the situation. After blasting the energy leech to pieces, the Autobots sped off to make the window for the time-jump transport. When the Decepticons found Autobot City abandoned, Soundwave considered raiding the city for supplies and rebuilding the energy leech, but decided to follow the Autobots into the past. Time Wars
