Synopsis

Wedge mopes about the fact Hot Shot has quit the team, and the other recruits are similarly downcast. They decide to leave Hot Shot's pedestal for the graduation ceremony, since he did after all complete the work. On Cybertron, Scorch introduces Hot Shot to teammates Mach and Glow. Hot Shot attempts a high five to derision. The recruits on Earth finish decorating for the graduation and Heatwave tells them to take a break. The recruits decide to watch the Cube championship on the holo-emitter screen, though it'll require boosting the signal using the space bridge. Cube practice is meanwhile not going well, and Hot Shot is surprised when Scorch chews him out for not being competitive enough.

Hoist wires up the space bridge despite Medix's misgivings that it will cause problems if anyone needs to use the device. Meanwhile Hot Shot has reviewed the Cyberblazers' previous wins and thinks he can improve things with the addition of some teamwork. As the recruits on Earth tune in, the championship starts and with some deft work, the Cyberblazers swiftly score the first point. Elsewhere Heatwave realizes Hot Shot never returned the Mul-T-Cog, and Optimus Prime volunteers to head back to Cybertron and get it. Of course, as soon as Heatwave activates the space bridge, bad things happen. The recruits find Heatwave, Cody, Chase and Optimus trapped in an energy bubble. On Cybertron, the two Cube teams are tied, and Scorch impatiently abandons the teamwork, only to immediately injure himself.

The recruits attempt to pop the energy bubble by adding more energy to it, but this just makes it grow. Meanwhile, the Cyberblazers win the Cube championship thanks to Hot Shot and the teamwork he's introduced. As they head to get the trophy, Hot Shot finds the Rescue Bot recruit photo that Wedge slipped into his bag and realizes he belongs with them. On Earth, the energy bubble has now enveloped the entire Academy and the recruits worry it will continue to expand. Hoist hits on the idea of cooling the bubble, and Hot Shot arrives back via space bridge just in time to lend a hand. The plan works, shattering the bubble, and Heatwave's anger is cut short by the arrival of the Griffin Rock townsfolk who've come to attend the graduation. Hot Shot apologizes for abandoning the team and they welcome him back. The graduation ceremony is held, complete with Heatwave taking a graduation photo.

Transformers references

  • Optimus Prime's exclamation that he would not miss the Rescue Bot recruit graduation for "All the Energon on Cybertron" echoes a similar statement made by Bulkhead in the Robots in Disguise episode "Sick as a Bot".
  • Glow, interestingly enough, resembles Glowstrike, albeit with a few changes, mostly notably her insectoid parts have been replaced with wheels. Given her name, it's unknown if this was intentional.

Animation and technical errors

Trivia

  • The banner in Autobot text at the back of the graduation display reads "CONGRATS". The text atop the graduation certificates the recruits hold up reads, unsurprisingly, "GRADUATE".
