Kate The Kate Bush Christmas Special is the antidote for those who are tired of the same maudlin, schmaltzy, saccharine, holiday specials on TV. The show (which aired December 28, 1979) has only one holiday song, December Will Be Magic Again, but Kate answers the age-old question: “what would happen if the BBC gave a Christmas special to an incredibly ambitious 21-year-old art rocker who also smokes a ton of weed?”

In 1990, the BBC approached Kevin Godley to make a short film to cap off a concert - something "featuring musicians from various cultures singing and playing together". Godley had a different idea - an hour-long video based on some "chain tapes." He'd record a couple basic demo tracks and then sending them around the world for different artists to riff on and add to the track before sending it on. The result, the hour-long film One World One Voice, is simultaneously a window into global music circa 1990, an appeal to environmental awareness and global unity, a collection of fascinating mashups, and the thing that Kevin Godley says is "the most significant piece of work I've done". Singer Lena Hall is obsessed. Best known for her Tony-winning performance as Yitzhak in the 2014 revival of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Hall is publishing a monthly series of YouTube videos featuring stripped-down versions of songs by artists she’s obsessed with. Twenty-three years ago, John Cusack and Peter Gabriel were inexorably linked by a single scene from the movie Say Anything. The scene's inspired devotion, mockery, parodies (including South Park, Saturday Night Live, Jimmy Kimmel, and even here on the blue) and flash mobs. Cusack and Gabriel have accepted their shared fate, though - and recently paid tribute themselves, during the Hollywood Bowl show from Peter's current tour. [more inside]

Dengue Fever is an L.A. band that fuses Cambodian pop music with psychedelic rock. They have a youtube channel where you can find highlights such as a live acoustic version of their song Uku as well as a clip from the 2007 documentary Sleepwalking Through The Mekong. NPR has an interview with them in 2008 and a review of their second album Escape From Dragon House. Peter Gabriel is a fan.

Glenn Marshall is an Irish computer video artist and musician whose recent work has focused on audio visualization programed in the Processing language. Generally the program is left to its own devices, though his work-for-hire has more intentional design, as in his video for the Peter Gabriel song "The Nest that Sailed the Sky." Marshall has also been hired to create video for Guinness for Sky TV and the Rugby Six Nations Tournament, and a looping animation for Hermes of Paris. Peter Gabriel has introduced a new iTunes plugin for Windows XP called The Filter. Using the All Music Guide in a fashion similar to Pandora, the software builds playlists from your library for you after you select a few tracks. Their marketing copy tells you that you should "Prepare to be reengaged and reinvigorated by your iTunes library."

OS X, WinAMP, and WMP versions are slated for the near future.

Real World Studios If you were a recording musician, how could you not want to record here at least once? A gorgeous environment that's inspiring on mulitple levels. Peter Gabriel deserves more credit than he gets. He's a forward thinking, decent guy who never stops trying. Now - release "Up" dammit.
