Rebecca Heineman on Blue Sky today: "Until we meet again… Jennell Jaquays 10/14/1956 - 01/10/2024." Intro to a 2022 interview: "an accomplished artist whose works were published in many D&D and other products; her adventures the Dark Tower and Caverns of Thracia are held up to this day as examples of the best in dungeon design, and after working in the tabletop industry moved over to computer gaming where she worked on the Quake franchise." RIP Kansai Yamamoto, fashion designer
[BBC] Japanese fashion designer Kansai Yamamoto, known for styling musician David Bowie, has died at the age of 76, his family said.
Yamamoto designed some of Bowie's most famous outfits including those of the singer's alter ego Ziggy Stardust.
The designer had been diagnosed with leukaemia and died last Tuesday, his daughter said in a statement on Monday.
Yamamoto was known for his colourful creations and incorporating traditional Japanese designs into fashion.
"In my eyes, my father was not only the eclectic and energetic soul that the world knew him as, but someone who was also thoughtful, kind-hearted and affectionate," his daughter Yamamoto Mirai said.
"He valued communication and showered me with love throughout my entire life," she added. [more inside]

Society's Stylish Secret
Ann Lowe was one of the most sought-after midcentury American designers, but since she was black, her name was virtually unknown to the general American public. Born in 1898 to a family of dressmakers (her grandmother made clothes for her plantation mistress as a slave), she began completing commissions when she was only 16. She went on to create dresses for some of the most elite members of New York society, though she did not receive credit for many of her most famous pieces (The wedding dress and attendant’s dresses for Jackie Bouvier’s wedding to John F. Kennedy; Olivia de Havilland’s 1946 Oscar dress). Her dresses can now be found in collections at the Met (2,3,4) and The National Museum of African American History and Culture, among other museums. Born in 1942, Colin Fulcher was better known – though not by much – as Barney Bubbles, who worked prolifically from the 1960s until his suicide in 1983. Designer/Artist Tobias Wong Dead at 35
Canadian designer and artist Tobias (Tobi) Wong died May 30th at the age of 35 of suicide. His personal site, though not updated for several years, details some of his work. The press release, posted on a design blog, notes his exhibitions and work on 100% Design Shanghai. This blog post also compiles many works, including his business card. One of his works was also discussed on the blue previously.

Brooks Stevens, the man who once said, "there is nothing more aerodynamic than a wiener," created the iconic Wienermobile , but was also responsible for many other innovations in industrial design. He put the first window in a clothes dryer, built a land-yacht and streamlined train, developed an important precursor to the SUV, and designed the wide-mouth peanut butter jar and an aerodynamic vacuum cleaner. More lastingly, he also created the idea of planned obsolescence, the "desire to own something a little newer, a little better, a little sooner than is necessary."
