Indianapolis, IN (InterSport Release) -- In what has emerged as the unofficial start of championship weekend, Intersport will host and produce Dell presents The College Basketball Slam Dunk and 3-Point Shooting Championships. On Thursday, March 30th at 7:00 PM at Hinkle Fieldhouse on the campus of Butler University, some of college basketball's biggest stars will square off in a stunning display of creative dunking and long-range shooting.
ESPN will air Dell presents The College Basketball Slam Dunk and 3-Point Shooting Championships at 9 PM ET on Thursday, March 30. The program will feature both a Men's and Women's 3-Point shootout, a challenge between the winners, and a high-flying dunk competition.
This year's dunk artists include Maurice Ager of Michigan State, local Indianapolis product Rodney Carney of Memphis, Vincent Grier on Minnesota, Errol Knight of Gonzaga, and James White of Cincinnati, Lawrence Wright from Bradley.
Among the sharp shooters on the men's side will be Marquette's Steve Novak, West Virginia's Kevin Pittsnogle, Notre Dame's Chris Quinn and hometown favorite, Butler's Bruce Horan.
On the women's side, the 3-point shooters will include Nikki Blue of UCLA, Megan Duffy of Notre Dame, and Erin Grant of Texas Tech, Tamara James of the University of Miami, Julie Larsen of Utah and Cappie Pondexter of Rutgers.
In all, there will be twenty-four players participating in the three events. Past contestants have included NBA stars Gary Payton, Steve Nash, Damon Stoudamire, Eddie Jones, Luke Jackson, Nick Van Exel and 2004 NBA Slam Dunk champion, Freddie Jones.
Among the celebrity judges for the slam dunk competition will be Indiana high school legend, Bobby Plump, who took Milan High School to the 1954 state championship and who was immortalized on screen as Jimmy Chitwood in the classic 1986 film, “Hoosiers.”
The show's on-air team will include ESPN announcers, Brad Nessler, Steve Lavin, Jimmy Dykes and Erin Andrews.
