- Okinawa—Nexus of Borders: Ryukyu Reflections: A one-off screening of works pertaining to Okinawa, including feature films and ranging from pre-war rarities to the newest of the new.
- Yamagata Newsreel!: Concerning on the early works of Newsreel, a filmmaking collective formed in the USA in the late 1960s, this program delves into the international solidarity—which included Japan—that was the driving force behind the films made in this period. All with the incisive insight that only the YIDFF can provide.
- New Docs Japan: Introducing documentaries by some of Japan’s most adept filmmakers, including topical works that have featured in international film festivals overseas.
