Re Cespedes, I think I would rather commit 35M over 4 years than any other free agent and he doesnt have the posting fee like a Yu Darvish. I don’t know enough about him to substantiate those numbers but from what I have read it is going to cost around $30M and it could easily go up.
If the Mariners do get him, let’s hope they have a bit more luck with him than the last time they took a flyer on a Cuban defector who was supposed to be amazing.

You’re missing a huge piece of information in saying that top prospects are worth more than superstars when you reference trades to prove your point: The superstars are being payed many times more in salary than the prospects.
Felix would be worth WAY more than Harper if they had the same salary. The fact is, Harper is being paid a fraction of what Felix is. The free agent/extention salaries in MLB are often close to that of the value of their talent. That’s simple supply and demand. Drafted prospects are given about market level money too.
Why are they lower? Because they are not as valuable when you factor in risk! Most ELITE prospects don’t even reach stardome. I’m not usually this blunt, but your assessment is simply not accounting for all the facts.
So what are the chances that the M’s go after Norichika Aoki? He is supposed to be Japan’s best five-tool guy since Ichiro, would slide in nicely in LF, and looks to be cost-effective in that early estimates are in the 7-10 mil posting with a 4-6 mil price tag. Additionally, there seems to be a number of guys other than Darvish that are possibly being posted. Any of them fits for the M’s?
