Bedard vs. Niemann, 7:10pm.
If this is Bedard’s last start in a Seattle uniform, I sincerely hope he goes out a winner. May you confuse and irritate a new set of beat writers, and may you win over that segment of another fanbase that isn’t given to musing about your motives and psychological make-up.
The M’s have been scouting the Detroit and Boston systems, but for now, I just hope the guy gets a nice ovation when his night is done.

Reliever Josh Lueke tweeted about today’s game, “Let’s keep this train rolling!” which is just adorable.
Do you guys think that totally kills his trade value? I mean his stuff looked good and he got squeezed a little and none of the hits were exactly rockets, but he also missed badly on quite a few and only got four outs. You think that puts his value at zero or does it just reduce it some?
At least on TV when they show the interviews in the booth it is just when the Mariners are at bat. That way we aren’t missing anything.
Haircut was bad. Probably could have done a better job trimming the facial hair.
Pant hem was uneven.
No, definitely not zero, but the operator hotline at the M’s front office is probably not going to be ringing off the hook. Bedard was just rusty and not able to locate his fastball. His timing/mechanics were a bit out of sync – which you would expect after being gone for a month. He didn’t appear to be favoring his knee – which is probably what the scouts were most looking for. Good velo … some sharp breaking pitches. Just didn’t have any command. He didn’t do anything to help his value, but it certainly isn’t zero. Lower than it needs to be, but that was the risk they took by sending him out there today. He won’t clear waivers, so they had to see what they had to see … and they saw it. A rusty pitcher.
Regardless of where you fall on the Bedard trade debate – we won’t have very long to wait and find out.
I am enjoying some of these Sonics interviews, to be honest. I’ve always liked Lenny. Heck, I remember when he was a player-coach!
Yeah that’s what I think too. If you wanted him this morning, you’re prolly still pretty interested, right? Sure, you’re a little less interested, but he was a risk then, he’s a risk now.

That was one of the worst at-bat I’ve ever seen by Olivo there.
Not often you nearly hit yourself in the face with the bat while swinging.

And not to argue with Lenny Wilkins, but Bob Gallo didn’t “discover the AIDS virus”. He discovered two early retroviruses, but neither one of them were HIV.
It scares me that Wedge sees Olivo’s batting approach as something to be emulated.

Boy, Smoak’s bat is just being dragged through the hitting zone. No “snap.” His swing looks slow. He is hitting .222. How many of you remember the television show “Room 222.”
Yes, the interviews with former Sonics is more interesting. The New Orleans franchise is in trouble and if a team does eventually go to the commish and insist on relocating (and if Stern ever removes that very large bug from his ass in regard to the Seattle stadium concerns), I would guess it would be that franchise. Just a guess. Used to follow the NBA closely. In relatively short order it became almost completely unwatchable, though. Maybe a team in Seattle again – in the future – can help change that around for me.

I’ve been asking, for weeks now, why Smoak hasn’t been given a day or two off. It triggered something for Ichiro, certainly can’t hurt to try. I’d like to see Carp fill-in at 1st though, rather than Kennedy. Kind of wondering When Wily Mo Peguero get’s the call as well.
I think he’s probably grateful for the distraction and not having to be right-on all the “play-by-play”.
This month has been just withering to the psyche.

Looks like the last game of the Yankees series was a mirage. The M’s offense is back.
Well in any case, a 8-0 hole pretty much sealed the outcome of this game.
I’ve seen enough to know that I don’t like it when a pitcher takes a lot of time between pitches, has to meet with the catcher in the 2nd Inning to come up with an out pitch, and then can’t find the strike zone. You’re gonna place some blame for tonight’s performance on the ump?
If going on the DL were a rare occurrence for Bedard, than a rusty start coming back wouldn’t be a big deal. But how can anyone have any confidence that his body will hold up for a sustained period of starts given his last 3 years with the M’s? Boston would be taking a big risk acquiring him, and if I were a fan of the Red Sox, I’d rather they look elsewhere for a pitcher down the stretch. Frankly, if I were a Red Sox fan, I’d be happier if they were able to pull off a trade for Fister than Bedard.
I hope the M’s offense returns this weekend. Discouraging the M’s better hitting of late didn’t carry over to Safeco Field, but Niemann pitched well tonight, and with an 8-run lead early over a weak offensive team, he could focus on throwing strikes. Happy and relieved when Ackley broke up the potential no-hitter in the 1st Inning.
Too bad that’s not what she said eh Mr. Lueke?

Speaking of round ball, I saw this pic of Slick Watts in the PI website, and the guy looks like a grown up version of Stymie from the Little Rascals.
It seems like a really long time ago when the M’s were taking consecutive series from good teams like the Yankees and Rays and had an expectancy to do so.
Now it almost feels lucky if they can escape being swept.
What the fuck happened? Well the pitching stopped being otherwordly, and the hitters have continued to be their non-hitting crappy selves.
I wish there were some hope in sight, but with the present roster that Z assembled it’s not looking so good. He really needs to get some decent bats (DH, etc.) by trading away some arms or else it could be curtains for him.
Without my amendment, your statement is ridiculous. The Washington Nationals got a “decent bat” named Mike Morse by trading away a spare part outfielder whom we just handed over to Arizona. The Cleveland Indians got two “decent bats” named Cabrera and Choo by trading away two spare part washed up first basemen. Smoak was supposed to be a “decent bat” for which we traded away an All Star pitcher. Dustin Ackley is a “decent bat” for which we didn’t give up anything because we drafted him. There is nothing mandatory about how you obtain a decent bat. We sure as heck need some, though.
So exactly how the heck do you propose to do that without trading any pitchers like I wrote?
Who do you think will bring something back. Figgins?!?
