Game 46, Mariners at Nationals

Christian Bergman vs. Joe Ross, 4:10pm

The end of the M’s last homestand could’ve gone better. I’ve heard the M’s brought up in more conversations these past few days than I have in months. Not for good reasons, unfortunately. People are on the verge of tuning out, which is why this road trip – a really tough one – is so important.

The M’s activated Robinson Cano from the DL, and that’ll help, but this team needs some pitching performances right now. Christian Bergman rekindling whatever magic he had in his last start would really help.

Joe Ross was a great pick up for the Nats out of the Padres org, and he posted two very encouraging half-seasons in 2015-16, but has also fought injuries. This year, his K and walk rates were about the same, but a serious HR problem has his stat line in tatters. He made a few starts in AAA, and is being recalled to make this start.

1: Segura, SS
2: Gamel, LF
3: Cano, 2B
4: Cruz, RF
5: Seager, 3B
6: Valencia, 1B
7: Zunino, C
8: Dyson, CF
9: Bergman, P

Nelson Cruz is in there at RF. This’d be a good day for Bergman to rediscover his ability to get a lot of ground ball contact.

Zunino and Emilio Pagan are back up, Tuffy Gosewisch and Dan Vogelbach are in Tacoma.

Motter has taken Valencia’s place in the lineup.

Great throw by Dyson but was he actually out? They only showed one (real time) reply before commercial but he looked safe to me.

Rain delays weren’t removed in the new CBA, were they?

This is just comical now and I’m sure somebody will blame the weather.

^It’s Bergman, but it would be ridiculous to think the weather isn’t a factor.

Well, Ross wasn’t out there throwing bp, hey, Zunino with a dinger!

Think Ross was thrilled to pitch in the rain? He’s been better, that goes without saying, but the weather is obviously a factor since pitchers don’t typically throw in the pouring rain.

The big question now is when in the hell they intend to take Cruz out of the field.

    Last 3 games:
    0-3
    Outscored 3-34

    Something has to change.

Tuffy prob got the PM shift at a Burger King near Vancouver at this point.

I enjoy rooting for Zunino to do good. I’m starting to worry its a personality defect.

Boise: your personality defect is of a more admirable sort than mine. Now that Zunino is establishing himself ever more solidly sub Mendoza, what I’m beginning to root for is he does just the opposite of what you’re rooting for so we don’t have him hanging around, Ackley-like, too far into even the rest of this season. I know … but we can’t spend the rest of the year watching both pitching and batting chase each other down the toilet bowl.
