I’d like to see if Washburn can give up 5 runs without giving up a hit. I have full confidence in him.
This game is ridiculous. But that’s spring training for you. Pitcher getting shelled, but hasn’t reached his pitch count? Leave him in, shell away.
Washburn kind of looks like a shelled peanut, come to think of it.

I’m sure Washburn blamed his error on Branyon. “You should be standing ten feet behind and to the left of the bag, idiot!”
I had the feeling Silva blamed Branyan for his own dropping of a perfectly catchable ball at first yesterday, after which Silva did a “Washburn” and pitched batting practice for awhile. Bavasi seemed to have a knack for finding pitchers who were unable to change their focus from “I made a good pitch and should be out of the inning” to “Okay, there’s a man on first, I just need to get the next guy out.”
Well, Chris Burke doesn’t quite have CF range, huh?
However, if you need someone with a jaw larger than a crocodile, he’s your guy. I mean, if he unhinge that thing like a snake, I bet you he could swallow Carlos Silva hole.
I have a bunch of friends in Minnesota, and when I ask them about Silva, they’re really surprised at how bad he is in the clubhouse.
I just noticed I spelled whole wrong. I’m going to blame Aardsma. If he doesn’t have to get out, I don’t have to spell right.
How long was that inning?
Long enough for Willie Bloomquist to have been loved, reviled, hated, disliked, revered, and ignored.
Hopefully long enough to Balentine to learn to run the bases and catch baseballs… Nevermind.
Kenji’s swing looked better, of course that’s off a guy who will be bagging groceries next week, as they say.
Since hardly anyone is posting in this comment area, I’ve decided to usurp it in order to propose some new slogans for the M’s this year.
“The Seattle Mariners… Ah, for f—s sake.”
“The Seattle Mariners… What else can go wrong?”
“The Seattle Mariners… Can we have 2 DHs?”
“The Seattle Mariners… Look at it this way, Oklahoma City wouldn’t even take us… So we’ve got that going for us.”
“The Seattle Mariners… Ichiro bobbleheads for EVERYONE!”
Wait, I got another one…
“The Seattle Mariners… Remember Bucky Jacobson? Wasn’t that cool?”
or
“The Seattle Mariners… Dude, we SWEAR Mike Wilson can catch the ball. See? Catch, Mike! Damnit, that was underhand, how did you not get that?!? Errr… Is this thing still on?”
Much of our (and any team’s fans’) optimism this time of year is base on irrational belief/hope that best case scenarios for each player will be achieved. Morrow’s projected upside in the rotation fueled our hopes for a .500+ season this year and a potential dream duo at the top of the rotation for years to come. Today’s news undercuts and upsets our views of both this year and future years. Tomorrow, as this reality begins to set in, we’ll start to re-fashion our hopes and begin to convince ourselves in new ways that the M’s can somehow contend this year and the future will be bright.
That’s all I’ve got. I’m not buying it either. We’re doomed. Washburn, Silva and Batista will continue to haunt us. With Yuni and Kenji only adding to our misery.
with the signing of chris burke today anyone else think that Beltre and or Yuni could be seeing a trip to another team?
Certainly feels like we are the gang that can’t shoot straight.
The Mariner’s management needs to be really nervous about their fan base and the Sounders siphoning away fans. I was at the Sounders opening day, and at the George and Dragon last night. There was more energy in that bar last night for the Sounders than there’s been in Safeco in years.
The M’s aren’t doomed any more than the United States is doomed. Undoing years of mismanagement doesn’t happen in a few weeks.
Yuni maybe, but Beltre no.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Yuni moved before the season starts, maybe packaged with Clement for something shiny.
Don’t get my hopes up.
Well, I don’t have anything other than hope myself, but it seems like one of the org’s priorities for this spring training was to figure out if Yuni was salvageable, and I can’t see how the Burke pickup makes sense otherwise.
How many utility guys do you need?
Actually, the new one they are advertising has the little glove statue next to it. You know, the glove that is on the NW corner outside Safeco. It’s the one with the hole in it, which I will forever call the “Russ Davis Statue”.
So, now I want one of those new Ichiro bobbleheads.
Well I hope you’re right. I would love to see some one other than Yuni at SS right now.
Actually, the commercial for that thing was what inspired that one.
Its funny, I didn’t see a lot of pinkhats at last night’s Sounders game, but rather a TON of little kids. And that is more than anything what the M’s should fear with the Sounders. Anyone over 20 is going to remember 95, and be a M’s fan. But there are a lot of kids that have known nothing more than mediocrity and boring teams for the last 6 years.
When I was hanging around the club section 30 minuets before the first kickoff, there were probably 2 kids for every 3 adults, which is insane, and shows the future potential of pro soccer in this town.
Oh, and in my humble opinion, if Beltre is still on this team in August, its going to be because he’s on the 60-day DL. We’re not signing him at the end of the year, and we’re not going to win 70 games this year, so all he’s doing now is getting in the way of 2E playing at 3B. I wish every bit of that wasn’t true, but its the way it seems to be, and so it goes.
gosh, I guess I don’t mind that I missed the game.
So much hope… OMG Morrow can’t start? OMG Clement can’t throw to second? So much despair… At least we are trading Yuni…
I wonder if more points will be scored in the next Seattle-Kansas City game in the NFL?

I can’t wait until either of them gets traded. My liver can’t handle those two being on the same team or starting for the M’s much longer.
He could very well be healthy and on the team because they couldn’t find anything to get in exchange for him that would be better than the chance of re-signing him and the draft picks if he doesn’t.
Seems like if Z can’t get anything for a power hitting gold glove 3B this summer, I’m going to wonder.
Are we going to sign him? I’d give myself better chance of winning the lottery when I don’t play it. I mean unless we want an aging 3B on the downswing of his career path who doesn’t like playing here.
And draft picks? I really hope we could find someone willing to give us something better than draft picks.
