First Place Woo!

One win down, 90ish to go.
Bedard struggled, the offense got themselves out a lot, the baserunning was bad… and the team still won fairly easily. Green and O’Flaherty were tremendous – EOF in particular looked outstanding throwing nasty breaking balls and getting whiffs.
Toss in the Angels losing and it’s a great first day in Seattle.
I expect to see a “Pursuit of Perfection” ticker for us on ESPN’s bottomline a la the New England Patriots.
And we had some walks which was nice.
Good teams win even when they under-perform, and we certainly did that today. But we are first!
Green and O’Flaherety had some wicked breaking stuff tonight. Welcome back Jose Lopez!
I thought Millwood would pitch a shutout through five. Thank you Rangers’ bullpen.
Has O’Flaherty always had that nasty frisbee slider? It looked positively Nelsonesque.
Are people still experiencing issues with MLB.TV? I want to sign up again (had it most of last year), but not if it’s screwy.
Speaking of opening day, what’s with the opening day schedule for the Nationals? A 1-game series with Atlanta? Has that ever happened before on opening day? That’s just absurd.
I had occasional issues throughout the day, but 99% of the time, MLB.tv worked well for me today. The 800K stream looked a lot better than last year’s (the 1.2 MB one didn’t look any different, and apparently didn’t work for a lot of people), but it’s still worth the investment.
After two innings of frustration, MLB.TV worked perfectly for me.
I might just stay up will midnight so I can finally yells, HAPPY FELIX DAY!
It’s officially King Felix Day!!!!!!!!
So, do you think they’ll continue to outperform their Pythag like this?
I agree with Dave that MLB.tv is still worth the investment (and it’s not close), but I find the new Silverlight player to be awful. I think I’m going to switch to the old Windows Media player. The Silverlight player is just way too choppy. Maybe it’s just be, but the new setup is pretty bad.
This is the first year I’ve tried MLB.tv. The 1.2 MB stream played back at about 1 frame per second for me, but the 800K was pretty good once I was able to connect to the server.
Now I need to find a way to get all those plugins installed on my work computer…
So there were a few things here to be really excited about, if one can expect any trends based on one game.
1) our situational lefty was left in to face a righty. It was Marlon Byrd, but still a righty.
2) Lopez showed an iota of patience at the plate. Yeah, its just a few at bats, but I think he took more pitches yesterday than he had in entire months last season.
3) I may regret saying this soon, but I didn’t cringe once watching Wilkerson in the batters box. I may yet grow to like him, especially if his platoon partner is Wlad come June.
I found the 800k video had to either be tiny or pixelated and crappy in full screen mode. I switched to the 1.2 and it was as good as watching it on TV at full screen. My monitor resolution is 1680×1050 though, so that probably has something to do with it.
I had no problems with the 1.2 using Silverlight, but I am on a mac. I have no idea how it is working for people on Windows.
Current Pythagorean is 136 and 26. Woo hoo!
Which is crazier: that so many talking heads have tapped the M’s to win the division, or that John Heyman has them taking the AL Wild Card?
17-
maybe he’s assuming that Detroit and Boston’s team planes will mysteriously crash into each other mid season?
