I guess, Benne. Maybe it makes sense in a season like this .. but it is pretty frustrating that players won’t do whatever it takes to win.

  2. jzalman on July 30th, 2008 7:36 pm

Big round of applause for Bad-tista going 6 IP with only 3 runs, 2 earned, against this crazy awesome lineup, and away at that. Clap, clap, clap…

  3. brothermatt on July 30th, 2008 7:37 pm

I was following the game on gamecast and my computer froze after that half inning. Even my computer is disgusted.

  4. walkie83 on July 30th, 2008 7:38 pm

    On another topic,

I must say that I am pretty shocked that the M’s haven’t made any moves yet. I hope I wake up tomorrow morning and see that Rhodes and Washburn are both gone.

Wow that inning went by fast. Oh.. it is because Batista doesn’t have to catch his breath between every pitch.

  5. MattThompson on July 30th, 2008 7:39 pm

The 2008 Seattle Mariners – pony killers.

  6. walkie83 on July 30th, 2008 7:40 pm

was that an 85 mph fastball from Eddie? How does he have a .194 opponents batting average? He must really be hitting his spots…

  7. tman2110 on July 30th, 2008 7:42 pm

    Hola El Guapo!

  8. Griffey IsMySurrogateDad on July 30th, 2008 7:45 pm

Maybe this has been broached before, but I’d love to see some suggestions for what the starting lineup/pitching set-up would look like for the rest of the year if we had our druthers (assuming no trades take place)?
    One man’s opinion:

    1-Ichiro!-CF
    2-Lopez-2B
    3-Ibanez-DH
    4-Beltre-3B
    5-Clement-C
    6-Balentien-LF
    7-Reed-RF
    8-LaHair-1B
    9-Bloomquist-SS

    SP-Hernandez
SP-Bedard (in a week or two or whenever he feels like pitching again)
    SP-Washburn
SP-Morrow (after short demotion to stretch his outings out)
    SP-Rowland-Smith

    Anyone else?

  9. walkie83 on July 30th, 2008 7:46 pm

Unfortunately they won’t do that lineup, because they are paying Silva and Batista way too much money to not have them in the starting 5.. even though they suck horribly. That is M’s management for ya…

  10. walkie83 on July 30th, 2008 7:48 pm

sweet! My last chance to see Rhodes as a mariner!! Hey, where are his earrings?

  11. stonyhill on July 30th, 2008 7:51 pm

The Dodgers are looking for a shortstop and Yuni is sitting. Coincidence? I hope not.

  12. Benne on July 30th, 2008 7:52 pm

Contrary to my earlier assertions, the Marlins are in serious talks for Manny. Names being floated around include Jeremy Hermida and Josh Willingham. Color me surprised.

  13. walkie83 on July 30th, 2008 7:53 pm

I certainly wouldn’t give up any good prospects for Manny…

  14. msb on July 30th, 2008 7:55 pm

I don’t even know how many times we’ve lauded his bat, talked about how the M’s correctly saw a great fit for his swing in Safeco when we were skeptical

pregame Shannon was laughing that she’d read that the Cubs have been in the market for more pitching, when Lou sat up and (oh what a shocker) decided he needed another bat, and that rumor had it that bat might be Raul– which had reminded her that Lou helped move Raul off the Ms and on to KC, and about a year later was reputed to have told the FO at the deadline that he needed a bat, you know, like that Ibanez kid.

  15. Benne on July 30th, 2008 7:56 pm

Rhodes is not helping the “trade Rhodes” cause tonight.

  16. walkie83 on July 30th, 2008 7:58 pm

true.. but just like Washburn’s game the past week .. I don’t think tonight will change his value either way..

  17. MattThompson on July 30th, 2008 7:58 pm

and about a year later was reputed to have told the FO at the deadline that he needed a bat, you know, like that Ibanez kid.

    And he pronounced it “Ih-buh-nez.”

    Close but no cigar!

AR not happy with that call!

  19. Go Felix on July 30th, 2008 8:00 pm

Come on Rhodes, you’re better than this. You know what happens if he gets out of this inning with no runs given up? Yeah that’s right, another prospect!

  20. CC03 on July 30th, 2008 8:00 pm

    #164

You mean the ump. Arthur is getting squeezed big time.

  21. Go Felix on July 30th, 2008 8:01 pm

Michael Young, broken finger and all, gets the job done.

  22. walkie83 on July 30th, 2008 8:01 pm

    shoulda wore his earrings…

Thank you Ichiro for moving over to right field… way to help this team out!

  23. Benne on July 30th, 2008 8:02 pm

I think I’m going to cry now.

  24. walkie83 on July 30th, 2008 8:03 pm

That has to be the best way for any pitcher to end his tenure with a team! haha! I’m gonna miss him..

Joh looks back at him like duh, WTF!

    55 to go!

  27. walkie83 on July 30th, 2008 8:14 pm

Vidro to PH… game is over…

  28. walkie83 on July 30th, 2008 8:15 pm

sadly, with the M’s team.. I can’t blame them for having him PH.

  29. G-Man on July 30th, 2008 8:17 pm

    Why not steal?

… oh, of course …. it wouldn’t have mattered.

  30. Go Felix on July 30th, 2008 8:17 pm

    yuck.

  31. walkie83 on July 30th, 2008 8:17 pm

doesn’t really matter.. but why on earth did Ichiro not steal there? That was the perfect time for one!

  32. WardP on July 30th, 2008 8:20 pm

    Turbo being Turbo..

  33. Zero Gravitas on July 30th, 2008 8:21 pm

The Yahoo! Sports game page “Top Batter” for Seattle tonight is Jeremy Reed (2-3, 1 RBI). Seems strange, considering they just PH’d for him in the ninth with the game on the line, with one of the worst hitters in all of MLB. I can’t tell you how many WTF moments I’ve had this year just looking at the box scores from M’s games. Add another to the list…

  34. HamNasty on July 30th, 2008 8:24 pm

Zero- Because Ibanez and Ichiro are the only lefties on the whole roster allowed to hit lefties at any time… ever. They are gritty.

  35. killer_ewok18 on July 30th, 2008 8:41 pm

As bad as we are, the Nationals awfulness knows no bounds.

We occasionally pull one out… the Nationals… yeesh…

  36. msb on July 30th, 2008 8:56 pm

As bad as we are, the Nationals awfulness knows no bounds.

sad that with a team this bad, they still can’t even be #1 in Pathetic.

  37. joser on July 30th, 2008 9:07 pm

sweet! My last chance to see Rhodes as a mariner!! Hey, where are his earrings?

If you’d been paying half as much attention to games as you’ve claimed you are, you would’ve noticed he wasn’t wearing them in any of the 35 games he’s appeared in this year.

  38. tmesis on July 30th, 2008 9:13 pm

186: If you’ve been paying enough attention to make that statement with confidence, you, as uma thurman said, need to get a life.

  39. tmesis on July 30th, 2008 9:16 pm

Sorry, Sharon Stone. Missed the edit limit.

  40. pgreyy on July 30th, 2008 9:25 pm

    Sharon Stone?

I associate that with William Shatner.

And, backing up joser, there were reports on FSN and in the local papers about the whole earrings situation when Arthur came back…so, it’s not like joser has just been staring at Arthur’s lobes every night…

…of course it’s not like we know for certain that joser hasn’t been, either…

  41. JMHawkins on July 30th, 2008 9:36 pm

For God sakes, if we can’t win a game, could we at least trade someone? I mean, just to do something worth talking about?

  42. HamNasty on July 30th, 2008 9:47 pm

JMH- When they lose just think of it as them fighting for Strasburg. They are trying to improve themselves by getting his cheap years.

Your 2008 Mariners — Ev’ry Night More Crazy Shit!

Was this game as —— up as it seems? I’m glad that I don’t have the DISH package otherwise my TV would have made it to the middle of I-80 in Reno during rush hour.

Methinks that we need to blow up this team with the exceptions of Ichiro!, Felix, Morrow and Dickey.
