Game 82, Blue Jays at Mariners

DMZ · June 30, 2008 at 5:10 pm · Filed Under Game Threads

Halladay vs Dickey. 7:10.

It’ll be interesting to see what Riggleman does with his lineup now that they’re back home. The road trip was a mixed bag but overall a decided improvement on McLaren. Here’s hoping Riggleman continues to put out serviceable units on the field..

No clubhouse chemistry forecast yet: you’d think that the San Diego sweep would energize the team and bring everyone together towards a shared purpose, but who can say? Only the experts, the experts tell us, and unfortunately, they’re not talking.

I think Riggleman should throw Dickey back-to-back games just for the hell of it. He’s more entertaining to watch than Batista or RRS.

  2. HamNasty on June 30th, 2008 9:02 pm

They don’t stop at just cotton candy, oh no, we needed rally fries! I would prefer a Rally get Halladay out of the game Fry but you get what you can take I guess.

  3. msb on June 30th, 2008 9:02 pm

Roy Halladay is worth every penny of his contract

    fine Halladay-esque moment

  4. Go Felix on June 30th, 2008 9:03 pm

    The bats, oh noes!!

  5. apunetid on June 30th, 2008 9:04 pm

97: I don’t think Selig would care for that. Wait, maybe he would, because the syrup in the bats would of course be sponsored by some syrup company, meaning more sponsor money.

Beltre obviously doesn’t have the literally-maple brand.

  6. msb on June 30th, 2008 9:05 pm

Is it in the FSN contract that they have to spend at least 45 minutes every game showing kids in the stands?

wonder if it the local director, or a request from the Ms– as pretty much every other area’s FSN broadcast seems to focus on pulchritude.

  7. lineshotbasehitleftfield on June 30th, 2008 9:06 pm

    103-was that a 2- or a 4-seam veggie in the commercial?

  8. killer_ewok18 on June 30th, 2008 9:06 pm

Did Richie just ask Halladay for time? What has he done to deserve that? I’d have thrown the pitch.

  9. NJ Ms on June 30th, 2008 9:07 pm

make up call at third ….i am in shock that richie hit the ball

hey! is any one but Willie allowed to show ‘hustle’?

  12. naviomelo on June 30th, 2008 9:08 pm

50 – Are you conceding now?

Pull the trigger Clement. Swing away. It’s ok, you’re still awesome in my book.

I haven’t had to bust out the old dictionary in a long time, great comment.

  16. lineshotbasehitleftfield on June 30th, 2008 9:10 pm

Big Dick’s AB was already ruined by that horrid ‘swing’ for strike 2. So much for his priors though.

  17. msb on June 30th, 2008 9:10 pm

so was that really strike three?

  18. smb on June 30th, 2008 9:11 pm

I thought so…tough pitch to hit though.

  19. Go Felix on June 30th, 2008 9:11 pm

    Mariners, Funk Blast
    Jack In The Box, Funk
Vern Fonk, We’ve got the Fonk.

I’m getting a little tired of the funk.

  20. lineshotbasehitleftfield on June 30th, 2008 9:13 pm

Tracer says strike 3. HELL of a pitch. I can already see the strikeout montage that SportsCenter is putting together of Clement looking three times…

  21. Mothy on June 30th, 2008 9:13 pm

    That inning hurt my soul

  22. PaulMolitorCocktail on June 30th, 2008 9:13 pm

119… it could be much worse, they could bring back “Abba.”

    nevermind

  23. killer_ewok18 on June 30th, 2008 9:14 pm

120: Um, except, why would ESPN waste that much time on the Mariners/Blue Jays? The most we’ll get is a box score…

msb wins comment of the day for use of the word “pulchritude”

    ahem.

Pull the trigger Clement. Swing away.

I think Jeff needs to enjoy his enjoyment more.

  25. Go Felix on June 30th, 2008 9:16 pm

    Department of redundancy department.

  26. lineshotbasehitleftfield on June 30th, 2008 9:18 pm

Griffey hit a walkoff bomb. Good for him.

  27. msb on June 30th, 2008 9:19 pm

there you go, a change of images– it’s Jays fans drinking beer.

it could be much worse, they could bring back “Abba.”

how ever did MLB miss that obvious “MammaMia” tie-in opportunity?

  28. msb on June 30th, 2008 9:21 pm

so I’m guessing maybe that the surge of that last road trip wasn’t so much the glory that is Riggleman, but more the sadness that is the cellar of the NL.

  29. msb on June 30th, 2008 9:23 pm

do you have to be A Professional Hitter to ‘hit the ball with authority’?

  30. Go Felix on June 30th, 2008 9:24 pm

There is a special badge you have to carry

  31. HamNasty on June 30th, 2008 9:26 pm

Can you hit the ball with authority 5 times and get a single every time?

  32. niterunner on June 30th, 2008 9:29 pm

112 – It must be due to Roy getting hit on the head, but I’ll concede.

  33. jlc on June 30th, 2008 9:30 pm

    Halladay vs Dickey.

I had no idea there was such a simple way to renew my love of baseball that the Mariners have been sucking dry. Knuckleballs and general pitcher domination. Be better if the Mariners won, but definitely not essential this season.

  34. ManageWA on June 30th, 2008 9:33 pm

131: The better question is what happens to those that don’t swing with authority. Is WFB anarchy with a bat?

  35. HamNasty on June 30th, 2008 9:33 pm

Can’t they just say RRS gets the start? They have to insist “all available bullpen arms” will be used like every other Mariner pitcher throws complete games all the time. They need to put that under all the starters besides Felix.

  36. naviomelo on June 30th, 2008 9:34 pm

What exactly did Willie do on that double play?

  37. AZ Ms Fan on June 30th, 2008 9:36 pm

Anyone watching sportscenter? they just showed highlights of the current playing mariners game and they probably got everyones name wrong that they did a highlight of, it was really sad. called clement, lopez to start it lol.

  38. Mothy on June 30th, 2008 9:37 pm

Ummm… Why did gameday decide to put up a higlight video of Johjima hitting a routine groundball to Eckstein? Has this game really had so little highlights?

  39. Mustard on June 30th, 2008 9:39 pm

Domination by Halladay…a thing of beauty if you are rooting for the Jays.

  40. lineshotbasehitleftfield on June 30th, 2008 9:41 pm

Domination by Halladay…a thing of beauty if you are rooting for the Jays.

or if he’s on your fantasy team. I’ll take it.

  41. Mustard on June 30th, 2008 9:46 pm

haha, complete game, 4 hitter. For sure.

  42. Mothy on June 30th, 2008 9:46 pm

He is on my fantasy team, but I’m not so happy… But this game went about how I expected. I guess they scored less than I would have thought. And Sexson got two more hits than I thought he would.

  43. north on June 30th, 2008 9:47 pm

133 Agreed. Fabulous game. And between last place teams.

Once again – so much depends on who’s pitching that day.

  44. cody on June 30th, 2008 9:57 pm

Well, at lest we didn’t score negative runs like I was expecting.

  45. jephdood on June 30th, 2008 10:32 pm

Dammit. I wish to hell Sexson would stop getting his occasional crap singles so we can finally release him already. I was sure he and Vidro would be gone as soon as the plane touched back down in Seattle yesterday.

  46. vitalogist on June 30th, 2008 11:58 pm

I’m not letting “The Feed” nickname slip away from RRS… that is too awesome – we have to find a way to use that! Come on guys, what else are we going to do anyway?
