No announcement of the Ibanez signing. Presumably they’re working on setting up the parade and related infrastructure, like the platform where Edgar Martinez, gun held to the small of his back, will pass a fake torch while ownership applauds.

I liked Stone’s piece on Boone… it was one of the few that has gotten across that (for the most part) it’s a persona, not the man. fwiw, there was also a Finnegan piece on Rob Johnson and the news that Vina has a hip flexor

Er, make that Buck O’Neil. It was spelled wrong on one of the placards at a baseball card show he was signing at awhile ago, and to this day I get it wrong every time.

Well, check off another. I heard that the hitting ‘coach’ was due to be on KJR AM today.
I can’t believe that Buck O’Neil was left out of the HOF. What a complete and utter slap in the face to him. There has been no greater ambassador of the Negro leagues baseball than he. I had been mulling over a road trip to cooperstown for his enshrinement, and now I’m mulling over skydiving into Bruce Sutter’s ceremony in protest.
well, Buck, bless him, is as sanguine as ever…
Hardball Times has a article that actually mentions WFB with regard to Hitting Discipline. If I’m interpretting this correctly, he gets thrown a higher percentage of strikes than all but 1 guy in MLB today. Basically, pitchers go after him…not helping the argument for putting him in the lineup, given his AVG/OPS numbers if he’s actually getting MORE legit pitches to hit than anyone else.

man, I just don’t know how Stanley managed to cobble a team together out of stiffs like Pujols, Tejada, Ortiz, Guerrero, Soriano, Beltre…

Because no one could ever bump Meche or Pineiro (especially if he has that 360 degree turnaround) and Moyer’s not getting old or anything.
Honestly, there aren’t too many rotations in the Major’s right now that a youngster has a better shot of cracking than the M’s.
