sing the praises! Was felix really throwing 99/100 mph in the later innings of the game? Also, after the game, ESPN.com used “King Felix Rules” as the hyperlink to the game summary.

What?! Comments turned on in a thread about our record against the AL West?! Lord! Turn these off quickly lest this post draw discussions of our previous losing streak!

I wish I could have watched the game last night. Was the crowd into it at all? Musta been nice to have those BoSox fans gone…

Felix at 99/100? I like what I hear. And 95 pitches according to foxsports. That is some good news. Also nice to see Grover not even having the option of using Soriano….

‘Bout freakin’ time. Vs. LA-LAs is our best matchup with our best pitcher, even if against Escobar whose pretty solid, so if twas going to happen this is where and when.

Hurtgroove is still not only the manager, but STARTING Bloomquist over Betancourt with the ultra-groundball pitcher on the mound, so I my “huzzah!” is still at mouse-volume, even with the recent winning ways.

Other good news – Julio Mateo is out from the year because he dropped a dumbbell on his left hand. Seriously. Hargrove’s reaction, found in the PI this morning, reaffirms why we all love him so:

“We’ll miss him, we really will,” Hargrove said. “He’s a big part of our club and a big reason our bullpen has done as well as it has this year. We’re going to miss him a lot. He’s pitched with the game on the line in tough situations.”

    I, for one, won’t miss him. I really won’t.

It’s not over. We still have that streak against Oakland that we couldn’t shake off yet. Imagine going 1-18 against them this year if that streak continues. It ain’t over until you beat Oakland once.

I was at the game. The crowd didn’t really have a chance to get into it, it was over too quick. Less than 2 hours.

I was quite upset about starting WFB, and sure enough he screwed up a couple grounders. The error by Lopez should have been handled, would have been by Yuni. I was surpised Hardy didn’t go with Putz in the 9th, though glad he showed support. Heck, King only had 90+ pitches, 70 for strikes. I saw a few at 98.

Having Betty in for the 9th showed exactly why he should be the starting SS when Felix is on the mound. He fielded two of the three outs in his usual makes-it-look-easy way, and was quite the contrast with Bloomquist (to be fair, Bloomquist had one nice highlight-quality play).

Note: the M’s still have a shot at winning the season series vs LAA. It may be slight comfort, but beating out one other AL West team head-to-head could take a bit of the sting out of being last in the division. (Theoretically the M’s could beat Texas, too, if they don’t lose more than one of the remaining 9 games, but…)

    5 – Pinball

Yuni has played in 129 out of 131 games. He should sit once in awhile. You can’t have it both ways, using the bench resting the starters, and have your best players in there all the time. WFB, with less talent, should spell the regulars from time to time.

I think the point was that Yuni should be rested with a flyball pitcher starting instead of Felix. Not that he shouldn’t be rested.

11 – makes sense to me

And of course that level of insight & planning is beyond the grasp of the guy who is paid to think about this stuff every day.

    Check out that headline, unreal.

    13, that’s wild.

I liked that they called it a “permanent” cast on his hand, too. That will keep him from ever darkening our mound again!

Regarding Willie at SS for The King – I was surprised that his K total was so low, especially early on (something like 2 K’s through 6, IIRC). That’s the outcome that helps keep Willie out of the fielding mix whether he’s in the IF, the OF, or on the bench.

  15. msb on August 29th, 2006 1:33 pm

well, he has the most wins, ergo, he is their best pitcher….

  16. msb on August 29th, 2006 1:58 pm

from the “huh?’ School of Journalism, courtesy of the Chicago Sun Times:

“Baker is winding down his four-year run with the Cubs, with a pink slip and a likely future back on the West Coast awaiting him in the offseason. There is a growing wave of talk-radio chatter in Seattle suggesting he would be a perfect fit for the Mariners.”

    there is??

  17. Coach Owens on August 29th, 2006 2:22 pm

    15. You mean for relief pitchers right? Because Felix has the most on the team with 11.

  18. pinball1973 on August 29th, 2006 3:34 pm

#11 Thanks (sincerely) for pointing out the bleed’n’ obvious to #10.

  19. jefffrane on August 29th, 2006 3:42 pm

Those of you talking to the radio up in Seattle had better shut up.

  20. JI on August 29th, 2006 5:34 pm

Even Grover is a beliver, he’s going with a full starting 9 tonight.

  21. gwangung on August 29th, 2006 6:08 pm

Well, considering the KJR audience, yeah I can believe it (remember, they think WFB should be starting….)

  22. msb on August 29th, 2006 6:11 pm

honestly, I can’t recall anyone on air advocating Baker, and the one or two callers who have asked about him have had the notion shot down by various hosts reminding them that the Ms didn’t talk to him 3 years ago…
