Speaking of watching, I am unlucky in that I can’t go to the game, but I am also lucky in that NHK here in Japan will broadcast the game without commercials (they always do anyway) and usually they show what’s happening between innings — not that anyhting interesting really ever happens. So, I’ll certainly be watching. Gambatte Felix osama!
Yeah, Yorvit only has 12 ABs vs. Randy, so that’s probably not especially significant, but it’s better than if he was 0 for 12 off him. Beltre’s the only guy with more than 20 ABs against Johnson, with 56 ABs, and he’s done fairly poorly against him, around a 650 OPS or so.
I’ve been to Felix’s last two starts at Safeco, the first time in the seats behind the plate and for the Chicago game just to the side behind the M’s dugout (you may have seen me giving him standing O’s at the end of each innning). But I found it difficult to see and appreciate the movement on his pitches when I wasn’t behind the plate. So given that I couldn’t get anything in the lower level for this game, I decided to watch it on TV.
#47 I totally understand why EPSN would show the A’s game. But like I said, I was just speaking purely from a personal perspective. Couldn’t care less if the A’s or Angels make the playoff or lose all their remaining games.
I just wish there was more alternative as to what’s available on TV. Some EE/CS guys should work on that. Shouldn’t be too hard to make it possible for viewers to choose which game they wanna watch. But then again, all the rights and advertising money and blackouts will get in the way.
#53: I solved that problem by getting a dish and buying the MLB Extra Innings package. Insert money; remove problem.
(And I think DirecTV is the only way to get FSN-HD if you live in Seattle.)
Ok Knob, I misunderstood and thought you had issues with it being the A’s-Angels game rather than it just not being the Felix game.
As far as having alternatives, MLB usually does a decent job at giving us options for watching games (mlb.tv, extra innings, etc.), but sometimes the blackouts can be pretty frustrating. If Fox wants national exclusivity for their Saturday games, they should pick at most two games on Saturday. Instead, about half the games are blacked out, and usually only one of them is available on the west coast, on a day when most people have free time to watch baseball.
re: blackouts — it could be worse. It could be the NFL.
Do you mean in the sense that the NFL blacks out games locally if they don’t sell out, or that they lack an Extra Innings-type cable package?
Well, I’m also in the Bay Area … which means that I will be trying in the next 30 minutes or so to find a bar/restaurant/whatever who will be showing the M’s/Yankees instead of the As Angels, as I have no cable.
But I am hoping to go Monday to watch the King in person (assuming I can find someone to watch my three kids, as my wife will be out of town …)
I’m in Los Angeles, class ended early so I get the benefit of being home in time to watch the whole thing.
