Oh man, do I dig Sauza. Weirdly, my friend and I both like silver tequilas better than gold, for whatever reason. I like cutting my lesser tequilas with Squirt, which I learned from Mexicans (no, really). Man, that is nice drinking.

Matt Morrison just unintentionally remixed himself while trying to say something, ending up like “that whole was just to dig to deep-deep-deep-dig-to-deep-dig-to-deep (wicka wicka wicka) big to dig, dig too big (whup whup shee-ha!)”

Two words – Heradura Resposado. And what is the tomato stuff you have with it called?

Thought Eddiie is M’s biggest chip. Hopefully Front Office will deal him and get better than expected in return. Villone as well as lefty relief bodies are a premium.

M’s are in driver seat now.

If you are not going to put new players in the lineup, at least mix it up a bit and see if that helps. Could not get worse.

    2005 feels like 2004

Mescal does a better job than tequila.

  7. Ralph Malph on June 29th, 2005 9:30 pm

They may be in the driver’s seat but they’re driving a Yugo.

Actually, Matt Morrison himself was one of the people here who feel that it’s too early to throw in the towel. My feeling is when you’re 13 1/2 games out in late June, you have the third worst record in the league, you have to know that you’re not gonna win the division (or jump over seven teams for the wild card), you need to make the best of a bad season — and that means cashing in the chips you have that have value (especially the players that aren’t going to be around the next time the team contends).

His thoughts were that it’s the first year of a new manager and you have to make a good showing. In my opinion, you do what it takes to finish with a .500 record but you don’t keep players like Guardado who are bound to be gone at the end of the year (if you can get 2 good prospects for him). If the M’s had traded Guarado and Boone last year (and possibly Villone), they’d be in a lot better shape now than they are — imagine if they’d gotten a decent starting pitcher prospect — Ryan Franklin (ERA over 6.00 in his last 12 starts) wouldn’t be in the rotation…

I think it would be different if we were playing close games and showing a spark. Instead many games in the last 2 weeks have been complete duds. They had a little spark when Lopez was playing.

There is no shot at the playoffs this year, make some moves, bring up some kids and make a more interesting team for this year and a better team for next year.

Herradura Reposado with Clamato? I’d do it.

Right now I’m drinking bloody buddys (budweiser and tomato juice).

Anchor Steam is 8 bucks a six pack up there? Ouch. Here in Berkeley you can get a case at Costco for about 20 bucks.

Duchsherer freely available talent? I thought the A’s brought him up from the River Cats where he pretty much dominated the Pacific Coast League. Did they trade for him or did he come up through their system?

Sauza Hornitos is my favorite (flexible enough for margaritas or sipping.)

I’ve had Patron before… wow. Has anyone tried “Platinum”? It’s something like $200 for a fifth.

  14. DMZ on June 29th, 2005 9:52 pm

    Patron Anejo

Ohhhh… man, I’ve had some of that. Niiice.

  15. Jim on June 29th, 2005 10:03 pm

USS Mariner bloggers numbed by too much losing or something. How can Ryan Franklin be ALLOWED to be on track to lose 20 games. I guess I gave up a while ago too, but still, geez, what is the secret of his success?

  16. pensive on June 29th, 2005 10:42 pm

DMZ And was going to give to you that 3 generations fancy box and all.

Tequila? Meh. I have bad associations with tequila, involving way too many straight shots of Cuervo Gold, a cute girl I had a crush on who went for another guy and a toilet at age 20- sort of like how chemotherapy patients sometimes get nauseous with certain smells because they remind them of chemo. It’s unfortunate, really, because tequila has some decent flavor to it as a sipping drink (that I miss out on).

Oddly enough, mescal, though? No issues. Weird, huh? Human psychology is inexplicable, sometimes.

Good vodka chilled below freezing or single-malt scotch OTOH… mmm, that makes me happy. I will gladly drink this or this any time…

two under the radar deals beane made…he got duchesser and saarloos for chad harville and luiz vizcaino…basically two soft tossers..throws high 80’s, relies on control, for two hard throwers….duke is having a great year and sarloos doing a good job as the 5 starter 3.80 era..not bad at all

  21. rly723 on June 29th, 2005 11:26 pm

yeah actually duke had a great yr in the PCL a couple years ago, but has been too valuable as a Bp pitcher..done everything this yr..closer, middle relief, long relief , setup…and saarloos was a to pprospect with the astros, i think the 2nd player from the 2001 draft to reach the majors, first was Prior. so he was highly regarded also

The M’s can’t resist swinging at that curveball. Aren’t there other options like spitting on it or fouling it off? Junk pitchers just own the poor M’s. They need a fastball or their game goes straight to L. Meanwhile Franklin’s fastball is just good practice for the A’s hitters.

I’m looking at the stats here… Ichiro’s OBP is .334. I’m no expert but I doubt that .334 is worth a hoot for a leadoff hitter. Isn’t .350 about the minimum? He’s a better player than that so I gotta believe that its just one of those seasons that gets filed under ‘You Can’t Win Them All’. Sexson, on the other hand is doing what he was hired to do which is hit 30 home runs and drive in 100+ rbi. Try to ignore that strikeout total which will begin to reach Cameronesque proportions by September. Also, pay no attention to the defense being played at 1B. They paid good money for that so no fair makin’ fun, ok? Keep the the faith that Adrian “Tinker” Beltre will find his happy thought, bat his wings mightily, and carry the M’s to the finish line with something, anything, to crow about.

At this stage the worst sin the M’s can commit is to be boring and they seem to be managing that very well. Time to call a priest. Maybe he can fix it.

  23. Paul Molitor Cocktail on June 30th, 2005 6:26 am

#121 – we have only two players on the active roster with an OBP higher than .350. Ibanez and Morse.

  24. Mords on June 30th, 2005 6:54 am

    Mariner’s website:

“Moyer, whose contract expires at the end of the season, said his intent is to play “beyond this year.””

Surely, he can’t mean play for the Mariners. Can he?

  25. Steve Thornton on June 30th, 2005 10:50 am

121 – I think Boone thinks if he keeps swinging at the curveball in the dirt for strike three, eventually the catcher will throw off line to first and he’ll be safe. It’s the only way he’s going to be able to reacquaint himself with first base.

This team is Devil Rays bad, with a Red Sox payroll. Hmm.

This, friends, is a terrible, terrible baseball team.

  27. Spike on June 30th, 2005 11:49 am

And…It’s a bad baseball team with a “budget” of $95m and an actual cost of somewhat less, but still too much for the performance. I feel there should be a fast talking legal ad guy thrown in with all sorts of disclaimers every time I hear $95m. Maybe the FO is so intrigued with the number 95 thay just can’t imagine using any other number for a budget.

I don’t get the feeling anything is going to change anytime soon. If he’s still here next year BB, will more than likely go after a new batch of mediocre 30 somethings ( as long as they’re nice guys)and continue to let the youngsters rot or become free agents due to time served in the Mariner gulag… er minor leagues.

Is this what happens to a Gillick run team when he leaves after his 4-5 years of glory? Or is it Howie and Chuck? Chuck was trained by George Argyros afterall. What do the experts around baseball say about the demise of the Mariners?

Enough rambling. I’ve been watching too much mind numbing baseball lately, and can’t seem to focus on just one point.
