Off-season tinkering

DMZ · December 29, 2004 at 12:30 pm · Filed Under Site information

Updated a couple of links (the NGFT link, as I guess they never got a redirect working, and the grandfathered Sports & Bremertonians, the only link to a site not exclusively about the M’s or Mariner-related stuff), added a new blog (“Mariner Madness“).

Nope, never got the redirect working. Stopped caring a while back. If you have any helpful tips about porting over archives from blogger, drop me a line – I can’t get that to work either…

Thanks, Derek. As for Paul, I was slightly saddened when I went over to the current site after you’d redone it and saw that there were no archives. But hey, adding the greatest internet sports games of all time was a vital first step, though not one that brings back past posts.

I’m trying, with the archives. Stupid day job keeps getting in the way.

At least the Sox have 1918 has also been changed to “Who wants to watch the WS?”

I was just looking for info on Ryan Anderson. I read an article from march that said he and bobby madsritch we housemates last year during spring training. wow i had forgotten about how high we thought of him. I also read that he will be ready for spring training. So iguess my question is do you guys think he has a shot in the bullpen? I dont know if he has lost velocity but man, it seems a waste

Ryan Anderson? I’ll believe it when I see him throwing pitches.

Uh, what Derek said. The M’s should be THRILLED if Anderson throws even 25 innings this year.

The Mariners should be *thrilled* if the guy can still throw a ball! His arm must be completely mechanical by now?

Wow, Mike Thompson of the Seattle P-I’s Mariners blog is quoting VORP statistics?… to the general public?? =8O The P-I is starting to look quite progressive these days.

Mike’s work on the PI blog has been quite good. He’s not afraid to go negative, to use stats, and do a bunch of things that don’t often show up in the print pages.

The comment threads on that site are atrocious, however. Seriously lacking value, usually.

Yup, he’s not afraid to level criticism at the Mariners establishment. 🙂 And I guess the P-I must be okay with that.

As for those P-I blog commenters, some of them are shameless oxygen thieves. To paraphrase an old piece of wisdom, “Bad commentary drives out good commentary.”

And who needs that, when I can just read USSM instead. 🙂

Hey, any chance you can get this guy to write for your blog?

  13. Noel on December 30th, 2004 8:56 am

That *would* be good, wouldn’t it?? 😀 Sadly, I think The Guy is quite busy already.

But on that topic, a quick shout out to anyone who might be interested in writing Mariners game reports/essays during the upcoming season (or contributing handwritten scoresheets, perhaps)… please contact Jim Thomsen at jthomsen@hotmail.com to express your interest. Plans are brewing as we speak.
