2-4, 1 BB, including the game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th, and that’s probably only a single because they only needed that one run to score so it should be 2-4, 1 BB, 1 2B. Welcome back, favorite player.

Um, Fruto didn’t pitch today. Did you mean Renee Cortez?
Fruto was warming up and would have pitched if we’d gone to 11.
God, what a beautiful day at the ballpark. Perfect weather, 3888 of us in attendance (mostly schoolkids, chanting Go Rainiers over and over and over and over again).
I got some nice photos of Doyle, but sadly, was clapping too hard to catch that expression of pure joy on his face when he touched 2B and then turned and ran into the arms of his teammates after bringing home the game winning run. God he looked happy. Best moment of the game.
2nd best moment had to be after Hunter Brown got ejected, then Terry Pollreisz got ejected (and came out and really got in the faces of the replacement umps, as he stood out there and drew this huge square around home plate as if to illustrate how huge that strike zone was, and then Brundage gets thrown out too. That was pretty entertaining. Until I realized that it all led to Dave Myers taking over managing, and frighteningly enough, coaching 3B…and I knew Doyle would be coming up. Brought back some unpleasant memories.
And as if to prove that no baserunner anywhere trusts Dave Myers when coaching 3B, pinchrunner Arroyo (running for Quiroz in bottom of 10th) would have easily scored the winning run had he been watching Myers, instead of the play unfolding in CF. Oh well, it just set up the chance for Doyle to be the hero.
AWESOME.
A couple other things. Snelling scored our first run, and then brought in our 2nd. When he was on base after the hit he got in the 6th, he misread a fly ball by Sears and almost got thrown out at first, and made a scary looking dive back to 1B.
There were no special baserunning gloves in evidence. Unless they’re pretty flesh colored and look alarmingly exactly like his bare hands.
Bring him up, have him DH, put Jurrasic on the bench. You get his bat in the lineup, and you make it impossible for Carl to get enough ABs to vest his contract. Everybody wins (as long as Biscuit doesn’t hurt himself running the bases or something).
How long would it take for Doyle to get back to reasonable playing shape. To bring him up right now (or in the next 2 weeks) would feel like rushing him up. I was thinking 100 ABs and then take a look at how he is doing. Does the team have a timetable? Carl’s option doesn’t vest until (approximately) game 100, so we still have some time there. Or do people think Doyle will be there until the callup?
Everyone needs to remember that he is still rehabbing! Calling him up to the big leagues today would be a mistake, no matter how much we would love too.
He needs to get some AB’s down at Tacoma before he will be ready to come up.

Can we let go of the Dave-Myers-as-Snelling-killer myth, please?
By the way, how heartening is it to see Travis Blackley have some good outings lately in San Antonio? He could be back in Seattle about the same time as Doyle.

I understand that tradition calls for a lengthy rehab stint. I Understand that he’s wearing a brace. I understand that he’s only had 4 at bats.
But, frankly, I don’t understand what he is going to accomplish in Tacoma as DH that he couldn’t do here as DH… unless people really believe it will take him awhile to relearn how to hit. I tend to doubt it.
And, since there is another adjustment at the ML level anyway, I doubt he really needs much time in AAA.
And with a team that is hitting this badly… even if it takes him a bit, does it really hurt us?
I can think of only one reason that the team has to keep his rehab stint long and that reason is named Carl Everett’s feelings.
So why should I want Doyle to have 100 at-bats in Tacoma before he comes up?
I don’t know that it’s 100, but there’s certainly value. He’s been in extended spring training for a good while now. He needs to run a little, ease into even shagging balls in the outfield, while he gets re-adjusted to high-level competition.
Maybe it’s only a small number of games before it’s obvious he’s able to hit the cover off the ball and you’re right, you can baby him at DH and have him do the tentative running-and-stopping practice at Safeco, under the careful watch of the medical staff.
Doyle’s back! Gotta love the banner. Picked up his bat where he left it on the way to first base last year: lining doubles off the wall.
