This week in crazy golf rules
Some players, like those considered the best in the world, don't think much about rules:
Stenson said he didn't carry the club because he had no use for it, not because he knew the possible penalties. "I'd be lying if I said I knew the rule 100 percent," he said.
“You asked me how well I knew the rules the other day. I gave myself a 7 out of 10, didn’t I? I guess this was in the other 30 percent, then.”
And how did this come about?
It seems that Golf Channel showed the practice-range scene with Stenson looking at his club and a viewer called in to raise the possibility that the tournament leader had a broken club in his bag.
!!! Viewer! Viewer as in view, not as in "call-in and make yourself part of the story".
So, two thing. One, the rule itself. In hockey, they have a rule that if you break your stick, you are obliged to drop that stick immediately. This is a safety issue. It's natural, and players do this on instinct. I don't know the reason that you shouldn't have a broken club on the field of play (safely protected in the bag), but I guess there's a possibility that it might get used, so, we have to make sure it's a good club. I can kind of see that. Maybe
But, the second thing: the viewer? VIEWer? No. Uh, NO! He should not be involved. I don't care what he saw on TV. He's not involved.
