Revisiting Werth
Werth signed a 7/126 deal after the 2010 season. According to Fangraphs, his 2011-2013 seasons have been worth just over 7 wins and 34MM$. We can figure that with the 2014 season, that might go up to 10 wins and 50MM$ over those first 4 years. At the time, I said:
As much as I love Werth (as a ballplayer), this is a huge overpay. The above schedule is not justifiable. A 4/56 deal would have been much more reasonable.?
Brisbee thinks that if he were to sign a 4-yr deal for the 2014-2017 seasons, he'd get a 4/56 deal. Seeing that he is in a worse position now than he was after the 2010 season in terms of true talent, that he is on a steeper decline phase than he was in 2010, and that the $/win hasn't really progressed that much, I don't see how 4/56 is what a team would sign him for.
