Assistant, Research & Development
Role
This role will be responsible for a wide range of tasks in the Research and Development (R&D) Department in Baseball Operations. The primary focus will be to assist in research projects related to advanced scouting and Major League strategy. Successful candidates will bring strong analytical skills, work ethic and communication skills. The position will report to the Director of Research & Development.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of advance scouting reports
- Implement research projects related to on-field strategy
- Compile reports and present results to baseball ops personnel
Required Qualifications
- 4-year degree at an accredited college/university
- Expertise in sabermetric methods and metrics
- Knowledge of advanced metrics (e.g., Pitch F/X)
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong work ethic and passion for baseball operations
- Experience with databases (SQL)
Desired Qualifications
- Baseball-specific research experience
- Experience with statistical packages (e.g., R, Matlab)
- Familiarity with Cubs organization, Major League team and prospects a plus
