Indians Attendance
?There's a discussion here on attendance in Cleveland, and some of the commenters were comparing them to KC and Pittsburgh. A few years back, I created a simple method to determine the "attendance base" of each team, if the team was a .500 team. It's the best I could do, with the data at hand. Obviously, if I had more data, different facts, I'd have a different opinion.
Anyway, I also broke it up into time periods. In 1977-1986, the ".500" base for Cleveland was pretty low, about as low as Pittsburgh. It wasn't unusually low, though, with Twins, Rangers, Mariners, all within shouting distance.
In the 1987-2009 time period, the ".500" base for the league jumped quite a bit, but Cleveland more than doubled. And their attendance base is similar to the Reds.
Anyway, I'd love for someone to take up the mantle here, and extend my work through the 2012 season, make split up the 1997-2012 time period into two chunks. You can make the method more complex, but then, you'll lose most of the audience. What I like about my method, however crude, is that it makes the results more clear.
YMMV
