Hall of Fame Ballot-gate… in 1981
?In 1981, ten different players got at least 40% of the vote (of which only 1 got elected, Bob Gibson). And then in 1982, Hank Aaron and Frank Robinson made their first (and last) appearance. Indeed, from 1975 to 1984 (except for 1979), at least 7 players got at least 40% of the vote every year.
In 2016, we got 11 players with at least 40% of the vote, setting the high in the history of voting. With Griffey, Piazza, Trammell off the ballot, and Manny, Vlad, and IRod being added on, and maybe a late push for Lee Smith, we might be poised to repeat that, and maybe go over.
