Gretzky Kings v Current Kings
Neil highlights various metrics in showing how the old Kings compare to the new Kings.
Gretzky is always effusive in praising other players in the NHL. Even in the retirement press conference, he actually used the name "Darren Langdon". Unless you are a big-time hockey fan (and even if you are), you might be asking yourself "who?". Exactly the point. All you need to know is that Langdon has around 1250 career minutes in the box, and about 2500 minutes on the ice.
Anyway, he had an interview recently where he said he attended a hockey game with his son, and his kid turned to him during the game and said "you used to play against these guys?", dumbfounded that his father could keep up with NHL players (much less completely dominate them). Typical Gretzky.
The ideal ambassador for hockey, and yet, strangely shutout of Bettman's NHL. So, I laugh when fans use "loyalty", because the fact of the matter is that once a team or league has no use for you, all loyalty might get you ?is to drop a ceremonial puck.
