Fastest to 100 hits?
Back in the 1980s, I seem to remember reading an article that said that Wade Boggs was fastest to 100, 200, 300, 400, and 500 hits. I might have just made up those numbers. I do remember reading the article, and I do remember that there were multiple thresholds that he set at the time.
In light of Puig, I'd like for someone to flex their Retrosheet muscles and present those numbers (at least fastest to 100 and 200 hits).?
In this case, you'd likely want to ignore walks and hit batters and SH. I would NOT exclude SF, though I know the official position would be to consider anything that was an AB. I would also include reaching on error, though again, that goes against the official position.
This is one of those rare moments where batting average has something decent to say.
