Criss-cross Lee-Strasburg
In 2012-2014, Cliff Lee has faced 2075 batters. Strasburg in the same time period so far has faced 2060 batters. Strasburg has 81 more strikeouts, and as a result, he's also able to get 68 fewer hits. The cost however is 89 more walks and hit batters. The net result is that Strasburg has given up 12 more runs than Lee. Two pitchers of roughly equal talent level, even though they get there in very different ways. 2015 will finally be the year that Strasburg's talent level will exceed that of Cliff Lee.
Sidebar: last time Cliff Lee IBB a batter was in 2010. What's the record for most batters faced without an IBB? Someone figure that out, and tell Posnanski.?
