Chained Replacement Level
?This concept is something that we've talked about a few times many years ago. The idea is that the better you are, the higher your personal replacement level is, since a team, without spending any extra resources, would just give more playing time to players on hand.
If you want an exaggerated idea: if we had a 100 man roster, the replacement level player would not be the 3001st best player in baseball.
Bill James has introduced Variable Replacement Level. I'm glad he's given the idea the exposure it needs.
