CEO of BABIP
Look at Pedro, when he goes from a .330 BABIP one year to .230 BABIP the next year. And this in the midst of 1999-2000, when he was at his ultimate FIP peak. His BABIP basically went from being 20 hits worse than average to 20 hits better than average. A 40 hit swing!Isn't it possible that the change in BABIP had nothing at all to do with Pedro's performance? That it was possibly entirely due to how his fielders happen to play? Or, that balls simply happen to drop in?
But, we have this "need" to assign responsibility to individuals, regardless to how culpable they could possibly be. And so, a 40 hit gap has to be accounted for. Since Pedro is the central figure, he absorbs all that.
He's like a CEO of BABIP!
