A run is not a run?  Or it is a run?

We haven't had one of these in a long time.  It's Friday, and, what the heck, the mood strikes me.

Before you put in your own thoughts, answer these questions first:

1. Would the Yankees have won fewer games had Mariano Rivera been the first reliever, and pitching every 3 days, regardless of score or circumstance?  That is, it's Saturday, the starter went six, ahead 7-2, Rivera comes in, pitches 1 inning, and he's out.  He pitches again on Tuesday, after starter goes 6 and 1/3, Yanks down 3-2, and Rivera completed the sixth and seventh (and Yanks rally for a 4-3 lead after seven).  He pitches again on Friday, and so on.

2. Would the Yankees have won fewer games had Mariano Rivera been the first reliever in the games that he ended up actually pitching in??  If Rivera pitched on Aug 5 in the 9th inning, then, we simply make him pitch Aug 5 in the first relief inning (say the 7th).

3. Does the fact that the Yanks may have won more games because of the way Rivera was deployed count toward Rivera himself, or it's simply a credit that goes to Yankees management in able to deploy their players in an optimal manner?  Say for example, a team that platoons effectively may be a credit to the manager, and not the players who end up hitting with the platoon advantage, and looking great because of it.

PLEASE, answer those three questions first, then feel free to say whatever you want to say.
