Royals trade RHP Grimsley to Orioles for Bautista
KANSAS CITY - The Baltimore Orioles addressed their beleaguered bullpen Monday, acquiring veteran righthander Jason Grimsley from the Kansas City Royals for minor league starter Denny Bautista.
Baltimore taxed its bullpen early in the season but adds the durable Grimsley, who was 3-3 with a 3.38 ERA in 32 games this season. The 36-year-old righthander leads all American League relievers with 262 appearances since the start of the 2001 season.
Grimsley has a lifetime record of 38-50 with a 4.76 ERA in parts of 13 seasons. He joins his fifth team, also having spent time with Philadelphia, Cleveland, Anaheim and the New York Yankees.
The 23-year-old Bautista allowed eight runs in two innings in his major league debut on May 25 and is 3-5 with a 4.74 ERA in 14 starts for Class AA Bowie.
Bautista, who was acquired from the Florida Marlins in the trade involving Jeff Conine on August 31, will report to Class AA Wichita.
