Tianxiong Yu, 25, completed his Master’s in Economics and Economic Policy at HSE University in Moscow. He spent the second year of the programme at the University of Luxembourg and has since enrolled there on a doctoral programme. While it is no longer a joint programme, HSE graduates continue to successfully pursue PhDs at international universities. Tianxiong spoke to the HSE News Service about his memories of his master’s course and how his time at HSE paved the way for his doctoral research.

With less than three weeks left to apply for full scholarships for master's programmes, the HSE University School of Finance held an online meeting to offer key details for prospective students of the Strategic Corporate Finance programme for the 2025/26 academic year. The meeting covered topics ranging from courses and admission requirements to the international student experience at HSE University.
HSE Continues Admission for International Applicants
The number of applications has nearly doubled: as of today, more than 2,600 applications have been submitted for undergraduate programmes, and more than 2,400 for master's programmes. This increased interest from international applicants in studying at HSE confirms the university's status as one of the most sought-after Russian universities abroad.
HSE University to Teach Russian Language to Students in UAE
HSE University is launching a joint undergraduate programme, ‘Bachelor of Arts in Russian Language,’ in partnership with Mohamed Bin Zayed University for Humanities in Abu Dhabi. This is the first Russian language programme approved by the UAE Ministry of Education.
HSE and Russian Institute of Theatre Arts Launch Double-Degree Master’s Programme in Theatre Producing
In August 2024, HSE University and the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS) signed a cooperation agreement, which marked the start of the double-degree Master’s programme ‘Theatre and Performing Arts Producer.’ The programme was developed jointly by the HSE Faculty of Creative Industries and the Stage Arts Producing and Management Department at GITIS.
HSE Researchers Prove the Existence of Nash Equilibrium for a New Class of Problems in Game Theory
Researchers at HSE University's St Petersburg School of Economics and Management have been exploring methods for the efficient allocation of resources in systems involving multiple players. The scientists have proven the existence of strategies for optimal decision-making in competition for limited resources. The developed model can be applied in various fields, ranging from education and medicine to managing networks and computing power.
Russian Scientists Improve Water Purification Membranes Using Metal Ions
Researchers have proposed using polymer membranes modified with copper, zinc, and chromium metal ions for water purification. These polymers were used for the first time in water purification via electrodialysis. Copper-based membranes demonstrated record selectivity for monovalent ions, opening new possibilities for sustainable water recycling. The study has been published in the Journal of Membrane Science.
New Science: How Early-Career Researchers Reach New Heights
In the context of increasing global competition, countries are striving to ensure technological sovereignty. The growing demand for qualified staff leads to an increase in the role of universities and the demand for early-career scientists. Onoja Abah Monday, 28, from Lagos, Nigeria, is currently pursuing his master's degree in the Science of Learning and Assessment (SOLA) programme at the HSE Institute of Education.
