ESPN 300 signal-caller Grant Gunnell has selected Arizona and now headlines the Wildcats' 2019 class. Its Gunnell's second commitment to Kevin Sumlin, after previously choosing Texas A&M last June:
What he brings: Tall, lanky, polished pocket passer. He's not quite the athlete Sumlin has been accustomed to having under center, but he can upgrade the passing game. Accurate, strong-armed player who can stretch the field and make difficult throws. He is a good enough athlete, given his size, to buy second passing chances with his feet. He can be a bit tense and deliberate in his methods as a passer, though.
How he fits: Khalil Tate burst on the scene last fall, and as he progresses as a passer we will find out if he's a guy who fulfills his eligibility. Arizona is very thin behind him at the moment. A youthful group with Rhett Rodriguez, K'Hari Lane and Andrew Tovar. We feel Gunnell is as good a passer, if not better, than what Arizona currently has on its roster.
Reminds us of: K.J. Costello, Stanford -- Both Costello and Gunnell have high, over-the-top releases and are pocket players with good feet. We feel Costello is in the ideal offense. We will find out just how good a fit Gunnell will be in Tucson in the coming years.
How the class is shaping up: Gunnell makes just the fourth commitment for the Wildcats. The Pac-12 is traditionally a slow burn conference-wide when it comes to verbal commitments in the spring. Arizona has two other commitments from Texas in RB Michael Wiley and CB Logan Wilson.
