How are online stores shipping for so cheap?

How do online stores ship things so cheaply? I was going to send a kitchen aide mixer to my sister, but it looks like it will be well over $100 dollars to ship it. I bought it online for like $250 and free shipping. It's even more extreme for things like furniture, which are more expensive to ship than they cost. Even small boxes can cost as much to ship as I paid for the product + free shipping. [more inside]

Shopping from retailers that don’t ship to the US?

I live in the US and I’d like to shop for clothing from retailers who don’t ship here. I’d like to use a shopping service or reshipping service and don’t mind paying service fees, but they all look quite sketchy. Any recommendations? [more inside]

Tiny car, big furniture?

I live alone in West LA. I have a tiny car with no trunk to speak of. I would like to start shopping for some used furniture, but it won't fit into my not-trunk. Everywhere else I've lived, I've known friends or family who have access to pickups, SUVs, etc and coordinated with them when I needed furniture moved. Not here. How do people manage this single-handed? [more inside]

How Can I Avoid USPS When Shopping Online?

I quit Amazon because all my packages ship via USPS, either directly or FedEx SmartPost. Now I'm looking for online retailers who let me choose UPS or FedEx. Are there any? Also want to avoid SmartPost and its UPS equivalent. (Some merchants tell you a shipment will use FedEx/UPS but you find out after commiting the order that USPS handles the last mile. Right now I'm waiting on a SmartPost package turned over to USPS 150 miles from me and it will take 3 days to get it delivered from there.)

Shopping Detectives, find this boot or one similar? (Shipping problem)

So, I found a short boot I'd love to get, but nowhere that's stocking it will ship to Greece. Can you either find someplace that will (highly doubtful; I've searched a lot), or help me find one very, very, very similar? [more inside]

Cross-border buying/packing/shipping service?

I live in the Bay Area and often find myself wanting things, especially delicious location-specific foods, from stores in other cities that don't offer e-commerce and/or won't ship to me. (Example, example, example.) I want to pay someone --companies, individuals, I don't care-- to buy the things, pack them up, and ship them to me. This seems like it'd be a fairly common need/want, so someone must have set up a business offering it, right..?

I need to buy more of the jewelry things!

I'm getting a start making jewelry and am looking for suppliers for inexpensive beads and pendants. Most of what I've been using has been cheap stuff from Fire Mountain and I've been really happy with the stuff I've gotten for them in the 75 cents to 2 dollar range but am looking for more variety. I'm more interested in pendants and other focals than beads, but I'm addicted enough to the bead part that I'll look at sites that focus on those too :) [more inside]

how to know when spending more for free shipping is a good deal

Going to purchase something online. Shipping is expensive. A larger purchase will get me free shipping, but the cost would be more than the cost of the smaller purchase plus shipping. How do you analyze decisions like this? [more inside]

A good re-shipping service in the UK?

I've ruined two of my favourite shirts and am desperate for replacements from Uniqlo. Sadly, they won't ship outside of UK and I can't go right now. Can you recommend (or do you know of) a reliable UK service that I could use to forward my package to Finland? I've previously used Shipito with US-only vendors and was hoping for something similar.
