2024 - Web Dev People - what tools do you AND your clients love using?

I'm a web/app developer moving freelance (though keeping door open to permanent positions as well) just under 3 years after a career change. I have pretty strong fundamentals in JS (React, Vue), PHP (Laravel) and SQL (Postgres), but I feel in the current market some more specific / specialised tool / platform skills would help me stand out and put myself forward for more diverse / interesting / better paid opportunities. Ideas? [more inside]

Seeking examples of good PHP code and architecture.

I've done a Google search and found lots of people asking for examples of good PHP code, but the answers almost always recommend frameworks, and sometimes libraries. I'm looking for examples of well-written, well-designed code in PHP applications. [more inside]

Does a wedding planning CMS exist?

I know of many online plan your own wedding sites, but what I'm looking for is one which I can host on a server of my own, probably some sort of PHP/MySQL based affair that will manage things like the RSVP, menu choices, gift lists etc, and also allow me to send emails to specific groups such as "Family of Groom, Family of Bride, Bridesmaids, Catering Staff" etc etc.

If I've upgraded PHP on my Mac, should I now avoid all OS X Updates?

If I've upgraded PHP on my Mac, should I now avoid all OS X Updates? I'm hosting a website on a Mac mini in a datacenter, and some of my software required a newer version of PHP than what's included out-of-the-box in OS X Mountain Lion. I keep getting the notification saying system updates are ready, and restart to install. But I'm scared it's going to overwrite my PHP upgrades and break everything. And it took me an insanely long time to get the PHP upgrade to work properly and play nicely with OS X Server.
