Books/Resources/Advice on Dealing with Homophobic Family
I’m a queer woman (well, womanish) in a relationship with a queer woman for the past 8 months. Everyone in my family is happy for me except my very catholic sister, who has tried to talk me out of being queer, and who is extremely resistant to the idea of my being in a queer relationship. I’m looking for things to read about dealing with this kind of situation. [more inside]
Where are all the queer pregnancy and parenting blogs?
My partner and I (both cis queer women) are starting down the baby-making path. My way of managing stress is to read ALL THE THINGS and blogs from people who have gone before me make me feel normal and less alone. I'm looking for all the queer pregnancy and parenting resources, especially lived-experiences of choosing sperm donors, navigating being a visibly pregnant and also queer person, answering all the invasive questions I'm guessing are coming, raising cool woke kids, and like, cute nursery ideas that go a little beyond just "gender neutral is grey or yellow." Family boycotting LGBT wedding. Help me not cry.
So I’m queer and my family does not “support” my sexuality and are therefore not coming to my wedding, which is in 90 days. How do I cope with how family oriented weddings are by nature? Practical advice needed. [more inside]
Away We Go - It's The Final Countdown
We're looking to relocate our family and have narrowed down our options (with the help of Metafilter) to Buenos Aires (Argentina), Toronto (Canada) and Melbourne (Australia). We've done our due diligence with on-line research, but we'd like to hear some personal anecdotes/experiences from people who've lived, worked or traveled to any of the above. [more inside]
Away We Go - Again?
Almost three years ago, we asked for suggestions of family-friendly, queer friendly, and senior friendly locales to set down roots. In light of recent events we'd like to revisit the question, but with a specific focus on areas outside the USA - though if you know of/live in a particularly staunch bastion of of our criteria on our native soil, we'd still like to hear about it! Help me make coming out to my parents as bearable as possible
I've managed to put off coming out to my parents as transgender for close to a year now. I'm 22 and have spent the majority of the last 4 years studying and volunteering abroad. Coming home last summer (to live with my parents, I should add) I thought I'd finally felt prepared enough to tell them what I'd been trying so desperately to hide from them. Over nine months later now I still haven't "gotten around to it", I guess. [more inside]
Help protecting my niece after coming out to her parents
I'm gay and my husband and I are concerned about the safety of our 13-year-old niece who is in a relationship with another girl. My husband's brother and sister-in-law have reacted very poorly to learning about this. What we can do for his niece? [more inside]
I want to help, but I want to help me out of this situation more
Family member asked me to help Christian dude struggling with gay feelings. After agreeing to meet him I see his beliefs are way more extreme than I'm comfortable with. What do? [more inside]
Advice for a 25 year old feeling lost?
I'm not sure how to ask this question. I've been in a weird funk lately where I've been feeling lonely and frustrated due to many factors. I guess I am just having a quarter life crisis in that I am 25 and feel a little lost professionally and personally. [more inside]
Just-18 friend kicked out for being gay, what are his options?
A very close online friend of mine is getting kicked out of the house and disinherited for being gay and not going through with what amounts to an arranged marriage. He just turned 18. The situation is somewhat urgent, he doesn’t have much in the way of local resources, and getting in touch with specifically LGBT groups is likely to strain his family situation further. What resources and options can I help him find? [more inside]
I'm still their dad, but should they call me something else?
Need suggestions on how my kids should address me, their transgender father. "Dad" now seems kind of weird at times. [more inside]
Where's Waldo's lesbian sister?
I recently visited my mother and noticed that while she has an extensive collection of family photos on display, there are none of my partner and/or me. [more inside]
