Replacement Lenovo battery hunt

My T470 ThinkPad needs a new battery. I thought this would be something I could purchase directly from Lenovo but apparently they don't sell replacement batteries for this laptop anymore. I've found a few potential sources for a replacement but I know that third-party batteries in general can be very hit or miss. [more inside]

Laptop battery management software - your recommendations?

The capacity of a laptop battery degrades pretty quickly, but it will last longer if you use clever battery management software, which will charge it only up to 80 %. No such apps are available for my make/model - but perhaps the Mefi crowd can recommend some third party apps? [more inside]

What kind of USB-C charger is appropriate for my computer?

I have a new laptop that appears to have a fairly obscure charging port design (neither of the 2 universal adapters I tried worked), but it does have a USB-C port that it appears to charge through when I tested it briefly. In looking for a USB-C charger to use as a spare, it seems like they all list a wide range of compatible computers, but none list my model. Is that just SEO stuff, or do I need to look for certain characteristics in a USB-C charger? [more inside]

Laptop battery won't charge.

My Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga 370 won't charge its battery! This is a used laptop, recently purchased off ebay. I tried a new battery to no avail. It works fine plugged in to AC, but immediately upon unplugging the computer turns off. Windows either says the battery is at 0% or 100%. Windows, tlp-stat and the Ubuntu Power Settings dialog all claim it's charging, but acpi says it is "charging at zero rate". [more inside]

Recommendations for a replacement laptop battery?

I'm looking for a new battery for my old Lenovo laptop. The OEM Lenovo batteries are pretty expensive ($70 and up). I would like to buy a cheaper aftermarket one especially since the laptop is quite old and might not last another 2-3 years. Can you recommend good places to buy online? [more inside]

I've just moved into a new (to me) house. (The house itself is old and quite funky.) I brought with me my extant Macbook Pro (most-recent vintage). I'm finding that when my computer is fully charged and the charging cable is plugged in (green light), the house lights flicker. [more inside]

Do these things run down my laptop battery faster?

I wonder if having 4-5 Word files open (including 2 always, just for for convenience) will drain my Dell Inspiron 11 3000 series battery quicker than just using one file at a time. I wonder: Does more tabs being open in a broswer mean more battery drain? Is a nonactive YouTube tab best being closed till used? I wonder if even having calendar, weather -- stuff I seldom open -- pinned to my taskbar run the battery down more quickly. Same question regarding having several Adobe Acrobat Reader PDFs ready at hand...just comic book pdfs. These things take so little space on the hard drive, so I figure they'd also use less RAM than other actual heavy programs, thus would be easiest on the battery-time availability. Correct me if I'm wrong, but having Foobar, Windows Media Player, and Spotify open at the same time will drain battery faster than having one going, as well as slow things down generally? Add to that the Word, Acrobat, a broswer... Thanks.

Laptop battery won't hold charge, but the battery may not be the issue?

Help me diagnose, because I'm not convinced that it's because the battery is completely/irreparably fried. I am computer hardware naive but would prefer to explore all diagnostic possibilities before purchasing a replacement battery, especially if that won't fix the issue. [more inside]

Reliable replacement battery for Dell Latitude E6420 in Germany

My 3 year old Dell Latitude E6420 laptop needs a new battery. It had a replacement already about 2 years ago after the one it shipped with just fell out one day (!) but other than that has had no battery problems. Anyone know how I can get a reliable replacement **here in Germany**? I would ideally like a Dell or Dell-recognised component as this is my primary device and it needs to be reliable.

Laptop battery replacement: worrywart edition

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Z470, and the battery is pretty shot. I've been unable to find a replacement battery for this model through Lenovo's own site. I also can't seem to find an exact match for the one I have through third party selling. Current battery: labeled Li-ion 20, model # L09S6Y02. Closest match I found online, which claims that it's compatible with my laptop (but I could find no actual evidence): Li-ion 00, model #L08S6Y02. Put my mind at ease, Mefites: is this new battery compatible with my laptop? (And if I should return it, where should I get a battery, because searching Amazon for this kind of thing has been annoying.)

Where can I buy a Lenovo X220-compatible charger in DC today?

Right now I'm at the airport, waiting to fly into DC, and just realized I forgot my charger. I'll see what I can pick up at my layover, but I would like to a) not fry my laptop and b) continue to use my laptop. I would like to buy the charger after checking into my hotel. I will not have a car. Relevant facts: 1) The X220 is the small Lenovo Thinkpad (not touchscreen.) 2) Staying in Dupont Circle 3) No car

Laptop / Netbook that runs cool and has long battery life

Interested in a Netbook or lower power laptop that runs cool (doesn't require external cooling like this) and has long (6-8 hour) battery life. Would like to run Windows 7 so Chromebook is not a good candidate for me. And of course want to come in around $200. I know there a lot of candidates here but would really appreciate user's real life experience. Thanks.

Follow up to previous question....4yo Dell Inspiron laptop suddenly giving me the old "Plugged in but not charging" routine. Froze the battery for a day but no luck. Battery For Aging Laptop: OEM or 3rd Party?

Battery For Aging Laptop: OEM or 3rd Party? I need a new battery for my four year old Mac powerbook (old one discharges within 60 mins). Like the original, it lost its endurance after 2 years and currently discharges after 60 mins of use. There are few OEM batteries still around for this thing (though I did find one on eBay). But it occurs to me that while no Apple battery could possibly be fresh at this point, the 3rd party replacement ones MIGHT be more recently made. Though I'd usually hesitate to go with a 3rd party manufacturer on something like this. Any advice? FWIW, it's a Powerbook G4 15", and battery is A1045/A1078/A1148

What's mah mAH?

I need to buy a new battery for my Dell Inspiron 6000, and I've found two options: A and B. Obviously A is more expensive, but it has a higher mAH. I by default prefer the longest battery life possible, but I also don't know jack about laptop batteries. Searching the google has given me only whiffs and bits of information. Tell me hive, is 8000mAH better than 6600mAH enough to warrant $20 more? What can I expect from each, very roughly, in terms of hours of continuous use between charges? Also, feel free to inform me that A and/or B are terrible sites I should not buy from.
