Eating out for 20 in Queens

I'm bringing 13 high-school theatre kids to NYC in a month, staying in Long Island City, Queens. I'm looking for places that will welcome 13 exuberant, exhausted theatre kids along with 7 adults and happily serve them food we can't get in our little Seattle-adjacent community. [more inside]

Oysters at Thanksgiving - advice on buying in NYC and keeping fresh

I'm contributing a few dozen oysters to the big meal this year. I've never actually kept oysters in the fridge though -- they've always been consumed immediately. Any advice on when to buy them and how to maximize freshness until shucking time? Should I wait until Thursday morning to buy them if at all possible? And any recommendations on where to get good ones at a reasonable price in NYC, assuming I won't have much time for shopping over the next couple days and would prefer an easy and reliable place to pick them up in Brooklyn? buying good soup in nyc (for meal prep)

hi! I'm disabled and need to eat more soup/stews for health reasons. I would ideally be eating homemade soup and getting it delivered to my place in the Bronx. I can't cook much because of my illness. Does anyone have recommendations for places /people that I can buy from that has 1.tasty soup 2.over 32 oz (so I can save more for later) 3.affordable (under $15 for a few meals worth) 4.delivers to the Bronx or can pickup near Flatiron Building [more inside]

Full English breakfast on a weekday in New York?

Weekends in New York a full English isn't too hard to find, but are there any places that will do a fry up on a weekday -- specifically Friday? By full English I mean full English, with black pudding and sausage as a breakwater. Bonus points for a full Scottish with haggis.

Kid Friendly Mid/Upscale Dining in NYC

Myself, my wife and our nine year old son will be visiting NYC in August for a few days. It will be our wedding anniversary while we're out there, and we're hoping to find a mid/upscale restaurant to enjoy. My wife and I usually would splurge on a multi-course meal someplace really nice, and while our son is pretty adventurous when it comes to food (most recently he enjoyed stealing some sweetbreads off my plate), you know, he's still a kid. Food/gift basket in NYC

A close friend is an emergency doc in NYC working her ass off right now. I'd like to send her a food/gift basket. Something fancy that she would definitely not be buying for herself right now (ex: cheeses/meats/olives kind of stuff). Any local suggestions? (or non-local too!) thanks!

NYC's Chinatown for 3 hours - whatcha got?

I've got 3-4 hours to explore NYC before an afternoon commitment so I've decided to explore Chinatown. I have little to no experience here so I'm looking for a few great places to find quirky homegoods, textiles and gifts. I'm probably going to grab an early lunch too so any food recommendations would be helpful.

Where in NYC to find the special beans?

I've decided the New Year's Day meal will be a simple Hopping John because of its associations with luck and wealth and folkloric good fortune. I've read this on the history of it and why it doesn't usually tun out well because of the inferior ingredients used now. I don't have time to order artisanal gold Carolina Rice or heritage red cowpeas from here so where in NYC can I find thier equilvents? [more inside]

I like old, interesting things. Where should I eat in NY?

Going with a buddy to NYC next weekend to wander through the Eldridge Street Museum, the MMA Cloisters, and other beautiful things with stained glass, carved stone, and old wood. Where should we eat/drink that is also beautiful, but relatively low-key? (Not that I mind skyscrapers and we both love industrial-beautiful/abandoned places, but we both hate lines/crazy crowds)

New York City Travel Question

Will be traveling to NY this summer for work for a week. Need to spend days on upper east side (5th and 104th). Nights I am free. Like to be able to walk to restaurants, windows browsing, perhaps some jazz. Any advice on what neighborhoods to look for hotels? I realize with the transit options perhaps this question doesn't make much sense, but I would rather not spend a lot of time or money in transit. And if you wouldn't mind suggesting some favorite gems of neighborhood restaurants, places that might be worth the trouble to get to?
