I am trying to make some carrying straps and I am looking to explore a range of material options in person in NYC. I'm looking for like... seat belt kind of stuff but thinner, shoestring-like material, and like... fabric in thin strips? Also maybe stuff like buckles and clips and whatnot... I am not so much looking for ribbon. Any stores come to mind?

I found it in my stash and I am really enjoying it for mixed media. But I don't know what kind of paper it is, and I am far away from the art stores in Seattle where I bought it. It is kind of slippery, like Yupo, but only a little. It is very thin, and it seems to have an organic texture, like a watermark, throughout. But there is also a dot pattern that seems machine generated. [more inside]

I want to make my own wind-up toys, by which I mean I want to make things and stick wind-up mechanisms inside them. Metal visible parts strongly preferred, but other than that I don't need anything fancy - fancy things I don't need include antique parts, expensive kits or wholesale quantities. I just know there are lots of cheap wind-up toys, so I'd like to think there's some way to buy the mechanism for a similar price.

I live in a one bedroom apartment. 1/3rd of my living room is assigned to my craft table/supply storage for my mixed media art hobbies. I just lean my unused canvases under my desk in that area. How do I organize them more efficiently and WHAT do I put them in? [more inside]
