College across the country - what do we need to know?
My spouse and I are delighted that our younger child will be attending college across the country. This will be a new experience for anyone in our immediate or extended family and friend circles. What do we need to know about having a child attend college on the other side of the country? [more inside]
WWYD with a ton of time?
I'm 22, about to graduate, and have a free summer. This is amazing! Might be the last chunk of time I have like this for, I don't know, ever? And omg, what do I do with it? [more inside]
Help me feed my 20-something wanderlust. Difficulty level: Wheelchair
I'm like every other post-college twentysomething in lots of ways: I make too little money, watch too much Netflix and indulge in an existential crisis oh, about once an hour. Also, like many in my cohort, I love the idea of packing up a ratty old duffel bag and heading off to some far corner of the world to taste, see and do all I can, while maybe giving myself either a leg to stand on once I return to the job market here or the warm-n-fuzzies that come from volunteering and/or service learning. All pretty standard fare. Here comes the doozy of snowflake: I'm in a wheelchair and have certain difficulties with speech fluency, owing to my CP and spastic diplegia diagnosis. Try as I might, I can't get myself to give up on the dream of spending a year or more abroad, even with all this in my way. Help me get there, oh beautiful hivemind? [more inside]
Dead ends everywhere I look
That I've posed this question more than once before in various forms doesn't say very many good things, but the circumstances being what they are, I have to hope the answer is yet to be found. That's all I've got really- hope.I'm a 23 year old recent college grad ( in May, with a BA in psychology from Stony Brook University in NY), looking for love, a job, a journey and a purpose. I'm also in a wheelchair, unable to speak fluently in an increasing percentage of life situations, grossly overweight, unmotivated and uninspired. Help me build a life away from my couch and outside of daytime TV, Facebook and lies. [more inside]
Where should I travel?
My roommates and I are going abroad for the month of July. We're American college students; we'd like to go somewhere warm and cheap for a month. The thing is, we're not necessarily looking to go backpacking the whole time. I'm searching for a place that's super cheap, warm, and close to the ocean where we can write/relax/make music for a month. Shoestring budget here, and we don't mind dumpster diving. In the past I've sublet an apartment in Paris for two months for really cheap and just lived there to explore the city. Does anything spring to mind that's coastal and doable? [more inside]
Find out where it's happening, and get yourself there?
Can I- a college student- work for the Obama campaign (in dc, in chicago, in a swing state) this summer and not starve? Or are there other wacky, do-it-while-you're-young-live-out-of-your-car summer experiences Askmefi would suggest? [more inside]

Best location for college students on a spring trip?
A group of us students are given the opportunity to go abroad over the Spring Break week in a (predominately) non-english speaking country. The location is up to us (war zones are of course off limits. I'm unsure of the distance limit, I believe South-East Asia is too far away, and St. Petersburg is the only option for Russia) and the cost is subsidized quite a bit. The purpose of the visit isn't for lounging around and seeing sites though, we will be conducting individual research in order to make a ~50 minute presentation back home.
Obviously this is something that will come from the desires of the group, but I was hoping to get some input from the educated masses here at MeFi so that I could relay it back to the rest of the group.

University Blues
Has anyone dropped out of school or taken a significant amount of time off and done something exotic? I can't stand college anymore. I know that most jobs I could get out of the US, or even in remote and interesting places within the US, would require some sort of skill, so what sorts of things should I work on now? What kinds of opportunities should I know about?
I went to college for two semesters, decided that I was sick of being schooled after 19 years and took a semester off to travel through Asia by myself. I did, and came back full of fervor for learning and seeing my friends again. [more inside]

Studying Spanish
I have one semester left in college (until the scholarship money runs out) and I would like to spend it abroad minoring in Spanish. As much as I love Spain, I would prefer to go somewhere more exotic and off the beaten path. I’m looking for adventure to accompany my education. I’ve only been to Mexico and Cuba and would like to get people’s perspectives and recommendations on other Latin American countries. If you were in my shoes, where would you go and why?
Aimless
I'm a 35 year old male and am smart, single and fit but find myself feeling like time is running out. Perhaps too smart; I have a high IQ, whatever that is worth, but am not a college graduate and I find I still have a bit of a complex about this despite having been gainfully white collar employed for most of my adult life. I never started college and wouldn't even know where to begin. I meet people easily and am told that I am good looking. I was 30 before I realized that I had coasted so far on charisma. With an opportunity to make a life change in the next year what should this American do? Long term and short term answers are all welcome and travel is a possibility if your answer deems it necessary.
Where to Winter Break?
WinterBreakFilter: If you were a 19-year old college student in California with a working car, a few hundred dollars, the period between December 9th and January 3rd, a sense of adventure, sidekicks as needed, some knowledge of the French language, and a general desire to do something memorable this year....

What to Bring to University?
Things to take to university? I'm moving into my (self catered) accommodation in a couple of weeks from now, and as I am sure most of you have been through this before, I was wondering what the absolute essentials are, along with any other tips you can throw at me.
