My cake is draggin'

I know, another theme cake question. This time, I need to make a dragon theme cake. I can't think of ANYTHING creative. I do NOT want to do a literal dragon shape or fondant dragon. I don't have or want a dedicated cake pan for this. I have seen the Game of Thrones dragon egg cakes. That's not the right thing either. Some level of conceptual fun would be fine, but the birthday kid is turning 6 so not too high art here. THANK YOU!

Whaaaat is happening to my angel food cakes?

First two angel food cakes turned out wonderfully. Last three attempts have turned into pretty gross sugared egg goop - egg whites didn't whip all the way up and turned back into liquid. Why? [more inside]

Recipes for a Bake Sale

I'm organizing a bake sale that will take place in a record store; we'll be selling baked goods while a couple different bands perform. It's a benefit for an all-ages nonprofit performance space, so the crowd is going to be more "denim vests and cheap beer" than "PTA fundraiser cake walk." I'd like suggestions for recipes that don't require me to buy an ingredient that I'm only going to use a small portion of, are fairly simple to make, and easy to make into sturdy single servings that don't require plates or forks. Bonus questions: vegan suggestions, jello shots, and savory items. [more inside]

In search of the "Golden Rod cake pan"

I'm searching for a cake pan that was apparently common in the early 20th century: the Golden Rod cake pan (also sometimes called a Waldorf Triangle cake pan). You can see an illustration one in the lower left corner of this picture, and here is a photograph. Here's another one (the pan on the right). Does anyone know of a current source for these pans? Cupcake Candyland

I'm throwing a Cupcake Candyland party that promises to be a sugar&booze fueled shindig of over-the-top girliness. I have questions about cupcakes that aren't really cupcakes, gluten-free cupcake recipes, frosting & decorating, and pink cocktails that utilize homemade grenadine. [more inside]

My Birthday is coming up !

After 50 years of success, my Mom's favorite chocolate cake recipe is now failing to meet expectations. Betty Crocker blames Crisco, and Crisco denies blame. Not only do the cakes not rise like before, they tend to sag in the middle. It's a devil's food recipe from the original BC Cookbook, and she has been using the same ingredients forever. I calibrated the oven, and even watched her make one to insure it wasn't due to an error by a sometimes forgetful 84 year old baking Ninja. Any ideas on how Mom can get her Mojo back?

Calling all baking experts!

I'm baking a cake on short notice. How should I substitute vanilla essence for vanilla extract? More importantly, the cake pan is a different size than is called for in the recipe, so how long and hot should I cook it? [more inside]
