Creepy exploration game apps okay for kids

I'm looking for games available on iPhone and Android systems where the main character solves puzzles and explores various settings, ideally creepy ones, but that has minimal combat and certainly no realistic violence or "mature themes." (I'm not a video game person, so I may be using all these terms wrong.) [more inside]

Competitive word games for the distant

When my large family (70-ish parents through teen/tween niblings, but mostly my adult siblings) gets together we play things like Boggle, Scrabble, Balderdash, Bananagrams, Code Words, Apples to Apples, charades, Jackbox games, etc. We all live in different time zones. What mobile/web games should we play now, all together or in smaller groups of 2 or more? [more inside]

Vehicle game app for a 4 year old, and PC game for a 7 year old

Looking for non-violent , entertaining and at-least-a-little educational electronic games for my kids. An alternative to the approx half hour of shows they watch per day. The 4 year old loves vehicles/police trucks / fire rescue, and doesn’t like things that are explicitly academic, but I thInk could be persuaded to play some kind of matching game (esp if it involves said vehicles). The 7 year old likes simple video games like those found on pbs.org. I like them too because they are innocent, non-gender-oriented and have a variety of options. Anything you recommend? Thanks! Ideally they can be played independently and with minimal adult supervision (so, no commercials or opportunities to spend money). Thanks!!

I need an app launcher, for a single app, not the popular kind.

I make Windows videogames, and my latest engine doesn't let you select screen resolutions. I could change it so it does, but I'd rather make a small program that first lets you choose resolution (and set fullscreen and such), then launches the game app. But then wait (I said in my head), hasn't someone already created this launcher tool? Please help me out. Have they? [more inside]

iPhone game like A Dark Room, but...not A Dark Room?

I’m looking for a game, playable on my iPhone, with probably crazy specific requirements. I fell in love with and completed (twice, once with huts and once without) A Dark Room. If I could erase my memory of playing that game and do it again, that’s basically what I’m after. [more inside]

The best iPod Touch games where you make progress

Looking for top notch, detailed but fun games to play on an iPod Touch. Games like Tower Defense (Lost Earth) or the Angry Birds series, where you can make progress and pick up from where you left off. Not games like Temple Run/Jetpack Joyride/Robot Unicorn Attack where you start from scratch every time (even if you do get upgrades or badges). I am not really interested in Plants vs Zombies or Tiny Wings for whatever reason.

Beautiful, simple iPhone games

I love Ferry Halim's Orisinal games. What are some games for the iPhone with a similar beautiful aesthetic and simple gameplay? Bonus points, as always, for free or cheap.
