Google photos slideshow - but shuffle?!
Seems you can't do this. Please enable me to do this with as few steps as possible.
I want to go to a place tomorrow, log into an android tablet, and play the pics in the drive as a randomised slideshow. I can imagine downloading another app to do this, I cannot imagine downloading the photos. [more inside]
ISO Android Parental Control Software
I want to move my son from a Fire Tablet onto a normal android tablet. I'm looking for parental control software that will A) Open into a closed playground at startup B) Allow only apps that I give it and not have within-playground app installation C) Allow one of those apps to be Amazon Kids+ D) Not allow web browsing/searching or youtube E) Allow time limits and time goals on specific apps or groups of apps. Does this exist. What is it called? Open to paying. [more inside]
How to buy an old-school basic, no-extra-letters Micro SD card?
I have an older Samsung Galaxy Note Pro (I think) Android tablet that can take a Micro SD card. I think I need plain Jane 64 MB Micro SD, but searching for that only turns up Micro SDXC or SDHC. Any suggestions? Vendors with a really good search interface?

Which tablet is best for running emulators?
I am looking for advice on which tablet (iPad or Android and which model) to buy for both work and play. For play, I have some questions about emulators (nothing illegal; I'm emulating games I already own). I'm wanting to emulate perhaps even up to PS3 games. Price range is $750 or under. [more inside]
Tablet or Chromebook?
I've always been a Windows PC person but things are changing, and I'd like to increase my arsenal, but I'm not sure how apples-to-oranges comparing an Android Tablet to a Chromebook is, and would like advice on what to look for or get. [more inside]
Best Whiteboard App for Lecturing on an Android Tablet
Things I care about: writing/drawing sentences, symbols, equation, & diagrams; control over colors pen thickness; ability to erase, copy/paste, & move things around; pointing at things; exporting images of the content of the whiteboard; easy zooming and scrolling; saving the content of the whiteboard to open again later.
Things I don't care about: interactivity, animations, autoshapes, handwriting-to-text, paintbrush-like tools. [more inside]
Tablet for Marvel Unlimited/comics
I want to buy a cheap tablet, preferably 10 inches, for doing literally nothing but reading comics (and probably Metafilter) on. [more inside]
New to e-ink reader / Android tablet. Suggestions?
I just picked up an Onyx Boox Nova 2, mostly because I wanted something lightweight to travel with that I could also hook my bluetooth keyboard up to for writing. Main uses for the tablet are reading and writing. How should I maximize those activities and what other suggestions do you have to get the most out of it? Graphic novels? Manga? [more inside]
Android tablet/keyboard for testing WebGL app, or other options?
I'm participating in an open-source software project to visualize some data. The testing I've done in desktop Google Chrome's developer mode is not helping me fix Android-specific bugs, which are invariably found when the end user pulls out their Android phone, but which do not show up in Chrome on my non-touch desktop. I'd like to test how the interface works (or fails) on an Android mobile device, without buying an Android phone. [more inside]
Cheap alternative to iPod Touch
I need a cheap alternative to the iPod Touch. Requirements: must be cheap and run Android or iOS apps, and work on WiFi. It doesn't actually need to have any music-playing ability, so no headphone jack or bluetooth required. [more inside]
Best tablet/pad for very low-mobile parent?
Hi all!
I am buying my parent a tablet (ideally Android as I will be setting it up and that's what I'm used to, but I can be flexible). There are certain provisos however! [more inside]
(How) can I use my Surface Pen in an app running on an emulator?
For my sins, I frequently need to mark up a lot of student papers submitted through the an online system called "Canvas." They only offer rudimentary pen support in their web app. Apparently it works great in their "Canvas Teacher" app on Android, but that leaves my Surface Go-owning self out in the cold. Sadly, neither the pen nor pinch-to-zoom works for me when I tried using Canvas Teacher in Bluestacks. Is there an emulator out there that will work? It doesn't have to be free. [more inside]

Bring Out Your Android Apps!
I am revising app choices on an Android phone and an Android tablet. Please tell me your picks for non-Google non-Facebook non-Microsoft apps. Similar Ask from 2014.
I already use Signal for messages and usually browse with Firefox. I am keen to replace the Google default app suite ie Camera, Calendar, Contacts, Phone, Maps etc.
More interested in in functional apps to make life simpler or more interesting, less interested in games.
Turning a Galaxy Tab 2 Into a library point
I got gifted a Galaxy Tab 2 recently and it doesn’t fill a need my phone/iPad can’t cover. Ware some alternative uses for the thing? I want to turn it into a dedicated New York Public Library e-book and audio book point of access. What apps or downloads would I need to do that? (We plan to use it as a house and we both have NYPL accounts) What other ways could I make it into a “here’s where you get access to free media” point?

Talk me down from buying all the things
I can't decide what devices I want to own. I have a laptop I don't enjoy and a tablet that I love, but is probably not that long for this world. I'm trying to decide whether I should spend some money now to update my laptop or buy a completely new one that will replace some of the things I use my tablet for.
Help me future-proof myself, and possibly recommend small, lightweight laptops that are sometimes happy to be tablets? [more inside]
What's the best 7"-8" Android tablet around now?
I love my Nexus 7 2013, but it's starting to behave oddly, so I'm keeping an eye out for possible replacement tablets for when it dies. What are the best Android tablets of similar size out there right now? [more inside]

Touch 1 hour, touch 2 hours

Minecraft on an Android tablet for $200-ish... Can it be done?
My seven year old has saved an amazing $200. He'd like to get his own Android tablet that can handle Minecraft PE. Can this be done? Currently he uses my wife's iPad 2. But the lag is driving him nuts. Would a tablet in his price range be any better?
Looking for sturdier Kindle 7" case that can keep screen higher

View two parts of one PDF at once
I am looking for apps that will let me take handwritten notes in a file/on a PDF and also view two different (arbitrary) parts of those notes/PDFs at the same time. I need this functionality on a Samsung Galaxy Note 8, a Mac running OSX, and an iPad Pro. [more inside]
Will installing Android on a cheap Fire tablet make Youtube work better?
I got one of those $50 FireOS tablets, and it works okay... EXCEPT for Youtube videos. Sometimes it's okay, but most of the time it just hangs without playing a Youtube video. I assume this spotty performance is because it's not using an official Google-YouTube app? Anyone else have this problem? If I try to put Android on it, will YouTube actually work any better? (I don't want to brick this thing if it wouldn't help anyway.)
First Gen Nexus 7 is unusable and slow since recent Android updates
I've got a first-gen Nexus 7 tablet that I once loved dearly. But for some months now, since one Android update or another, it has become unusably slow. Even between basic functions, it now has the kind of lag time that allows a person to go the kitchen, brew a cup of coffee, come back and settle into their chair and still find the thing dragging. Surely, it's not gone for good. How can I make it usable again? Specific instructions or links greatly appreciated. [more inside]

How to add multiple books to Aldiko Books in an Android Lollipop tablet
I want to add multiple books at once to Aldiko Bookreader on my Samsung Tablet. My current method is I upload books to Dropbox, and then essentially click on them on a time, and tell Aldiko to open them. Is there a way just to drag files somewhere, so they will batch add to Aldiko Bookreader?

Actually educational toddler / preschool apps

Street Navigation App for Android Tablet: Italy edition
We spend a few months in Italy each year, and duplicate our lives from Australia over there. Last year we purchased a second-hand car, and find it really useful to use a GPS for navigation. Our TelCo also gave us two Samsung Note 3 Android Tablets. We have smartphones and iPads, and are hoping to use the android tablet in the vehicle for navigation when required. Would Google Maps be the best? There is the provision for SIM cards in the Samsung, however I would probably prefer to link it to a portable hotspot if needed. PREFERABLY a navigation app for Italy which works well off-line. Any suggestions?
TIA
What am I supposed to do with a manically depressed tablet?
I recently bought a new Alcatel One Touch 7 Tab, running Jelly Bean. It has a lot of problems, often it takes several seconds to respond, apps freeze, it has graphical issues with some games that aren't necessarily new, some apps don't even run, and it hangs when going from one app to another. Android tablet is hung up on a system update
I've got a refurb ASUS ME173x tablet here, that I bought to give my one of my kids for Christmas. It's actually one of four identical tablets that we bought for our four (non-identical) kids. I've updated three of them to Android 4.2.2, per the notification that popped up on each. This last one, though, seems to be hung up on the actual installation. [more inside]
Apple tech geek needs to expand Android horizons
My loyalties are firmly in the Apple camp. I've owned many iPhones, iPads and various Macs. However, I know nothing about Android devices... and it's about time I learn. I'm a self proclaimed tech geek for pity's sake, but yet I am woefully ignorant about all things Android. I want to change this! [more inside]
Tablet for hearthstone
I'm looking to buy a sub-$200 tablet primarily to play Hearthstone and watch Netflix. I'm finding it confusing to to pick out the best quality tablet in this price range that will run Hearthstone well, do you have a suggestion? I am open to Windows, Android, or Apple. If I understand correctly, the Hearthstone app is not out for Android yet but it should be available soon.
Make an Android tablet elder-friendly for my grandma
Family members have gotten an Android tablet for my 97-year-old grandmother. Please suggest some ways to make the tablet as friendly and easy to use as possible for someone who has computer experience, but who can be pessimistic about learning new things and can get frustrated with people trying to teach her. We're particularly interested in tablet settings and also methods for instructing her in its use, but also open to hearing about tutorials or apps that might make her experience smoother. I'm overseas, so I'll be passing along ideas to my dad. [more inside]
How can I justify buying a Hudl 2?

Teaching on the sly
Music teaching n00b filter. I now have a tablet with ear training software I use in lessons and discovered the kids quite automatically pick up terms like "minor second" which I hadn't dreamt about teaching them yet. Just as they're in the app. Then when they're stuck on a melody on their instrument I say "go up a minor second here" and it works. Holy interval, batman! What are similar ways you use to teach musical concepts without being all obvious about it? Would it be correct to classify this as active/experiental learning and what are your favourite resources? What do you get when you get a more expensive Android tablet?
I need to buy an Android tablet for academic use. I went to BestBuy to check them out and they range in price from $100 to close to $600 with no obvious rhyme or reason to the variation. What do you get when you pay more for a tablet and is it worth it? [more inside]
Let me share my bad handwriting with the world real-time.
I have a 12" Galaxy Note Pro and it's beautiful and the pen part is great, but I have a few friends who I'm looking at possibly playing D&D online with, and one of the things I'd really like to be able to do is scribble things on the tablet and have them appear at full resolution in something close to real time on the screens of my friends on their computers. But I have no idea if this is possible or what it'd be called if it is. [more inside]
Android tablet with best battery life?
My cheapo Android tablet finally gave up the ghost. I'm in the market for a new, nicer one and thought about getting the Nexus 7*. But searching around, it seems to have a lot of problems with battery life, even when on stand-by. I don't play games or watch videos or even listen to music much on a tablet. My main use case is reading and annotating pdf articles and books, especially when traveling (long flights) when battery life is kinda important. Are these battery life concerns for the Nexus 7 founded? Is there another Android** tablet that does better? [more inside]

What Android/Windows tablet should I buy for academic use?
What Android or Windows 8 pen-equipped tablet should I buy for reading scientific papers, writing scientific papers, and taking notes? (Or is the app selection for the iPad sufficiently amazing that I should let it override my distaste for Apple's walled garden and the iPad's lack of an active digitizer stylus?) [more inside]
