NYC to EWR on Thanksgiving

I'm catching an international flight out of Newark on Thanksgiving Day, departing in the early evening. What's the best way to get to the airport from Manhattan that day (I was going to take the train from Penn Station)? How much extra time should I give myself? Any advice for surviving the experience?

NYC: Tasty Vegetarian Options south of 31st dining filter

What are some restaurants with tasty vegetarian options in Manhattan? Looking especially for places south of 31st, and ideally north of Houston. We'll be there in April, so if it's closing on March 31 don't tell us! We love Xi'an food but aren't sure Xi'an Famous Foods has anything vegetarian. We also love Malaysian food and can't get any Malaysian vegetarian options where we are. Outdoor dining is a plus.

New York non-resident tax withholdings

I am a non-resident working variable, part-time hours for an organization in NYC. Presumably I will owe NYS and NYC taxes. How do I ensure that I have sufficient withholdings to cover my tax liability? (Yes, I have an accountant. Who is not licensed in NY and cannot advise me.) I will make less than $10k at this job - does it even make sense to have tax withheld, or should I just pay up when I file? Help.

Driving through upstate NY tomorrow (Sat 11/19)

Can anyone give me a read on whether it seems ok to drive through upstate NY (specifically, Watertown/Thousand Islands on 81 to Ontario) tomorrow, Sat 11/19, given the weather? Just from the snow totals and timing/descriptions it looks possibly ok as long as I'm through there during the late afternoon (no plans to leave the highway there), but I don't know if I really understand lake effect snow. Only Something in the Building?

There is a new Hulu show called Only Murders in the Building. The show gets its title from a true-crime podcast created by the three main characters that is also called "Only Murders in the Building". The show seems to think this is an obvious reference to something but neither I, nor anyone I've asked, nor folks on FanFare, seem to get the joke. Any ideas? Do you recognize these comics/illustration prints?

I rescued this gorgeous pair of framed prints from a thrift store in Astoria. They looked so familiar to me, like something I'd seen before by an illustrator or comics artist I knew, but had passed up previously. But I can find no record of what they might be. They're each in a limited edition of 50, initialed MAM or MANI. The orange one is a surreal Map of the Known World, and the purple one is an adorable haunted-house rock band. Do you recognize them?

NY/NJ travel: turbo wedding hygiene edition

Mr. Armeowda and I are flying into New York for a wedding in mid-December. His obligations the day before will not allow for an early departure, ergo: red-eye! NYC moving company recommendations

So, I'm in the market for a moving company. All of my previous moves have involved fairly informal, relaxed building regimes where it was OK to use a "man with van" service from the Village Voice classifieds or random strangers from TaskRabbit to move in or out of the building. This new place is a little different. They're more uptight. Among other things, they require a certificate of insurance from the moving company in order to approve the move-in. [more inside]

This would really beat the hassle of dealing with prospective buyers in NYC while I'm busy with work and the car is parked in random places on the street getting grimy every day. My parents are happy to help and have plenty of free time to entertain offers. And research indicates I could potentially get a higher price in Minneapolis compared to NYC. What steps can I take now that my mom's been scammed out of $2,000?

Today, a guy called up my elderly mother, pretending to be me, with a far-fetched story about 'me' traveling in a car that was speeding, and yada yada yada, the police needed $2,000 wired to them so that this incident wouldn't go on my 'permanent record'. The phone number the 'policeman' gave was a 514 area code (Montreal). My mother used Western Union to wire the scammers the money. She lives in New York City. Yes, I've told her not to give any information over the phone, and yes, the con story is nonsensical in several ways, not least of which is her incorrectly recognizing her son's voice-My question is, do we have any chance of identifying and prosecuting these guys? The victim is in NYC, the perps were impersonating me and a (corrupt) San Francisco policeman, and they were using a Montreal phone number, which may also have been stolen/spoofed. Any insight appreciated. Be careful out there!

Nice nails improve one's outlook

Looking for apartments is rough on my sister so I want to make it up to her, but I don't know where anything is, plus I don't understand manicure terminology, really. Where's a nice mani/pedi place near a subway (either Columbus Circle or Parsons; or somewhere along the F or E)? She likes shellac and gelish; she'll probably want to become a regular is she likes it. Let's say around $50 or less for mani plus polish unless that's not realistic; advise me. Points for friendly, family-owned business or other charming features.
