The (written) daily news in 2023— does it exist?
It seems much of the news has shifted to video or podcasts. Is there a news source that you trust that puts out a daily written edition? [more inside]
Best sources of local news in the North Seattle metro area?
I recently moved to an area a bit north of Seattle (Everett/Marysville/Lake Stevens area) and I'd like to get some good sources of local and state news, preferably as an email digest to my inbox. I'm willing to pay for a subscription. Any suggestions? [more inside]
I AM VERY ANGRY
My city is experiencing a bus service meltdown that appears to have been totally avoidable. I learned about it through a local daily free paper and a local blog, but the city's paper of record has not seen fit to cover the story. I'm pisssssssssed and would like to let the world know about it. Should I write to the paper asking them to cover it OR should I submit a letter to the editor? [more inside]
Is there an affordable option for a print newspaper?
I have a bad, bad addiction to the internet. I want to severely limit my time online, but I want to keep up with the news (global and local). A print newspaper seems like a good solution, but most of the subscriptions I'm seeing are very expensive. [more inside]
Newspaper article clippings
Pure vanity question - if my work was covered in print by the major US newspapers in the last couple of weeks, and I wanted to get my hands on actual newsprint versions of the stories (not print versions from the web), what are some easy and/or creative ways to go about it? Preferably with no more than a postage stamp budget?
Newspaper subscription to help support the free press
I have a limited budget and am looking for suggestions for a national newspaper and a local-ish paper (Oregon) that I can subscribe to electronically. I'd like to balance getting good value for my money with actually doing good with my money. For example, I am attracted to the New York Times for the vast access to information it affords me, but wonder if my money wouldn't have a better impact at another paper that doesn't have so many subscribers. Any suggestions for specific papers (or perhaps other sources of journalism?) and why would be appreciated.
Help me apply for this news reporter job
I plan to apply for a job that I'm overqualified for but need desperately...and I've been out of the journalism field for several years because of the economy and some personal issues. I need help to not look like a desperate failure when I apply. [more inside]
looking for website with curated news headlines only, for end of day
a few months ago someone I follow tweeted a link to a website that curates and displays only the latest news headlines and top stories. I found this thread (http://ask.metafilter.com/192456/A-better-newspaper) on MF but the site is not listed there. This is a fairly new and probably still obscure site, but I loved the look of it and would like to find it again and seemed to have lost the bookmark. I cannot find it on google because the search terms are so generic.
This was an extremely CLEAN site, black on white (i believe) with attractive type, no (or very few/discreet) ads, and nothing fancy going on in terms of media or anything like that. Similar to "theweek.com" in terms of content but nowhere near as busy visually.
any help would be appreciated.

How is the NY Times on your iPad?
I live somewhere without delivery of decent newspapers e.g. nytimes. How good are the iPad versions of various newspapers: are they delivered electronically on time, do they have all/most of the content of the paper (i.e. color photos) edition, etc.? Bonus: do the major newspapers have decent Android versions?

Help me be a worker bee
I start a new job next week at a local newspaper in the production end of ad sales...ie. design. This will be the first time I've worked in three years. I dumbed down my resume a lot to get the job, which I really want. It's in a small town, which I moved to three years ago and the paper publishes twice a week....small town....really small town. I used to work at a high profile 24 hour Cable News Network located in Atlanta, GA, which shall remain nameless, wink. wink, in a very stressful, high responsibility position... [more inside]
one man student newspaper from scratch
So my (relatively) new campus has no good student newspapers. The student body has no voice, and very little community. I am thinking of founding a simple paper, printed on 11 X 17. I should mention that I have no experience in journalism layout and design and advertising and whatnot. So what resources, programs, links, suggestions, tips, etc. does the MeFi crew have?
