Week long Japanese classes for 9 year olds in Japan?
My son loves Kirby, wants to learn some Japanese and see Nintendo World. Is it possible to do a one week trip to Japan to do a little trip like this? A couple hours of language learning in a fun way and some trips to cafes and then we can nip over to Nintendo world? He is 9. [more inside]
Mother-Daughter Getaways Near Baltimore?
My five-year-old daughter and I have ten weeks of summer break stretching out ahead of us. I stay home with her, and much of the break will be spent at swim lessons or running in sprinklers while eating popsicles.
However, I'd like to organize a couple of Mother-Daughter overnight trips to break up the routine.
Berkeley Springs was a big hit when we went before.
We like outdoorsy, but not super challenging, waffles, donuts, lots of downtime, and cool playgrounds. Museums and cultural type destinations would be too much stress - my kid wants to touch EVERYTHING.
Any suggestions?

Adulting : Travel with Kids edition
Beloved family members recently visited - Adults are about 10 years younger than me, with 3 kids. Their travel sucked (the visit itself was great) but in talking to the trip-planner about it, he eventually said "Yeah, in hindsight, we saved some money by getting the cheapest flights and rental car, but really came out way behind".
Any tips on how to do this better? [more inside]
vacation for a sociable 5 year old and her anti-social parents
Thinking about travelling in 2023 with our daughter who will be 5. We've really only gone to visit family or friends, or vacationed with family, and i know that it won't feel like much of a vacation unless we have someone else there to help out with her. I have been looking at previous questions and i love the idea of a kids club. It does seem like a lot of the places with all day kids clubs are beachy. My husband doesn't like the beach at all, and i don't like the heat at all. [more inside]
Road trip destination from Austin with 2 small kids
We are a family of 4 with 2 young boys, ages 2 and 4, and we have 2 weeks over the Xmas/New Years time period for a vacation. Flying and getting the necessary stuff for kids seem more stressful than if we just drive once we factor is the cost of flights, travel time, waiting in line at the airport, car rental, car seats, etc. This is particularly the case since one of the kids has some sensitivity issues and being flexible is not a strong trait at the moment. The problem is that we are in Austin and everything is an obscene distance from us. We are loosely considering Destin/Pensacola area since we can break up the travel into a few days and still have a nice chunk to spend at the beach. I have two questions: 1.) Do you have specific hotel or airbnb that would work for us or for families in general. We are open to family resorts or airbnb. 2.) Is there another location (and related link for lodging) that is within driving distance from Austin?

What's the best trip you've ever taken with your kids?
My kids' childhoods are starting to blow past me at a terrifying speed and I know that if I'm not more intentional about our time together, I'm going to wake up tomorrow morning and be sitting at their high school graduations. To that end, I want to know: what are the best trips you've ever taken with your kids and why? [more inside]

Taos, Santa Fe, thereabouts with small kids
Vaccinated parents of two small children planning a road trip from Austin in late May/early June. We narrowed the destination to Taos or Santa Fe or nearby because that seems to be the right mix of 1.) manageable driving distance with 2.)a change of scenery. Looking for ideas, tips, and links on recommended home base rentals.
This is our first time taking a trip as a family of 4 and we don't know what we don't know. We have two boys: a very active toddler (2.5 years old) an infant (7 months). We are looking for spacious home base, preferably with outdoor space for the toddler to stretch his legs. We would like to be somewhere where we could do outdoor activities, grab food, be comfortable with kids, and avoid large crowds/tourist areas.
Please share any guidance on how we can best structure a long car ride with kids, places you stayed that you would recommend, sights you visited that small kids may enjoy, and how to make the trip also feel somewhat like a vacation for the parents.
Dublin with a 5 year old
My wife and I will take our daughter to Dublin in mid-February for a week's vacation. We have a few things on the itinerary. I asked previously where to stay, and you kindly also shared some recommended activities. Can you recommend some other activities within our parameters? [more inside]
Ok, Dublin! Let’s go!
After asking Monday about a potential trip to (or connecting through) the UK immediately post the next Brexit deadline, we opted to book a trip to Dublin instead. It seems like it will be a great place to go with our 5 year old. We will do more research on sights later, but hoped those who know Dublin can help us figure out where to stay so that we’ll be central to the sights we may ultimately visit. [more inside]

Quiet Carribean with kids
We are planning our winter vacation, two adults, two kids for mid February 2020 and hoping to go to a warm, sandy, snorkeling type of beach as low key as possible, but still in a resort type of situation.
At the moment we think Mexico is out and we went to Sanibel last year and are looking for something more tropical and quieter this time around.
We would want a kitchen of some kind and dont need activities per se, but snorkeling, kayaking and other any wildlife type excursions would be of interest.
Cost is certainly a very strong consideration.
Thanks for the ideas, thoughts and feedback.

DC, but like FAST
My parents have taken each of the grandchildren for a special trip to Washington, D.C. the summer between kindergarten and 1st grade with exciting things like hotel pools and room service and an itinerary of the special kid's choosing. My daughter's trip has been very delayed for (unimportant) Grown Up Reasons, but it's finally her turn in August and she's been waiting a whole year and she's so excited! Now what? [more inside]

Get out of San Fran with Kids and Grandparents
2 adults, 2 kids, and 2 grandparents are celebrating grandparents 50th in San Francisco this weekend. For one of the days we would like to rent a car and get out of the city. Help me plan my stay in NYC this summer with kids (Please)
What area of NYC should we stay in?
What's the best way to get from the airport to the hotel?
Is there anything I should consider about where to rent a car from?
(That last one seems like an odd question but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Our plan is to get a car and leave the evening of the last day, drive south for 3 or so hours and get a hotel and then do the rest of the trip.) [more inside]

Things to do in LA with a 6 year old movie buff?
So we're taking 6.5 year old Schwingg! Jr. to LA next week and looking for movie industry things to do! He's very interested in the history of movie production, silent movies, and black & white comedies. Pretty much uninterested in going to Disney. To give you an idea, here are the stars he wants to see on the Walk of Fame: Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin, Erol Flynn, Oliver Hardy, Stan Laurel, Groucho Marx, and Donald Trump. I understand that most of the movie set tours don't allow kids under 8, so that puts us in a bind. Ideas for movie activities (and any other non-Disney activities?)

Travel - Out of the U.S. tween comfort zone
Looking for suggestions on where to travel with American tweens/young teens that is culturally very different from the U.S. east coast and also safe enough that all travelers will feel at ease exploring. Kids are well traveled in the U.S. and Europe, adults well traveled in same plus SE Asia.
Our typical travel pattern is a whole or half-day doing something culturally or geographically significant, then a whole or half-day hanging out in ways and places locals would choose, so someplace with an active local scene is ideal. [more inside]

Where should we go for a long weekend in March in the mid-Atlantic area?
Looking to meet up with some friends for a relaxing long weekend in mid March. Will be traveling with 6 adults and 2 children under 2, and looking for spots within an easy drive from both Philly and DC.
Looking for a destination where we could rent a comfortable 4 bedroom house and have options for some shopping/restaurants/outdoor activities. Would consider a beach destination (NJ/DE/MD) if the town has stuff going on in the off-season. Also open to city destinations (we've considered Baltimore or Annapolis) or even a cabin in the Poconos.
Any recommendations welcome!

Where to spend a few hours with kids between Paris/CDG & Beaune?
I'm driving from CDG to slightly before Beaune and have some time to kill. Any suggestions for places that can accommodate jet-laggy 9-12 year olds and their grown ups? We gravitate toward open spaces, mild activity (lazy swimming, kayaking, etc.), local shops/groceries, small towns, cafés, maybe a nap spot, and the unusual. [more inside]

Help me make a camping/travel fun kit for my kids.
My family spends a lot of the summer traveling and at times camping for business reasons, and my kids (ages seven and ten) kind of hate it - or at least they think they do. I want to make a kit of fun, non-electronic, highly portable stuff to try to distract them from their misery. Besides computers, their interests include nature stuff, games, answering questions, reading (especially comics), arts and crafts and not camping. But seriously, stuff to feel more at home or comfortable on the road would be good, too.
Barcelona for xmas with a kid?
I'm thinking about going to Barcelona with my husband and our 11-year-old at Christmas time. We're interested in architecture, museums, food, and some low-key chilling out over the holiday. I'm concerned, though, that most stuff will be closed or extra-expensive because of the holiday. [more inside]
